A good friend of mine saved up enough and JUST bought a 2005 S2000 two weeks ago. Last night his soft top was cut and his seats (BLACK, STOCK) were stolen near Portage Park in Chicago. We’d appreciate it if we could harness the power of the internets for help finding the seats and/or the assholes/wastes of our earth’s precious resources who stole them. Craigslist, JDM Slutlist, s2ki, reddit, anything you can think of. Any tips to help recover them are also appreciated. Please help!

Imgur album of seat pictures for reference, but they are in pretty great shape so identifying marks are scarce:

The dickheads who did this should never be allowed seats again and be made to ride bicycles all the time.

And this, my friends, is why you shouldn’t lock a convertible. It’s better to let them open the doors rather than break a window/cut the top.

Owner of said car. I have no words for how upset I am. The plates on the car aren’t even a week old. Any help is appreciated.

My friend and I are actually looking for seats for a simulator setup. We’ll definitely keep our eyes open.

Same logic could be said for owning nice things in Chicago in general.
Locks only keep the good people honest and slows down the rest.

My buddy had the same thing happen a few years ago. He filed a claim with his insurance and they totalled the car. The cost of replacing the top and the seats was too high. He should of tried to buy it back.

We’re afraid of the same thing, hopefully his insurance will take care of him

When I did some cursory S2000 research last week, I saw several mentions of stolen seats. Are the seats really popular for M4d tyt3 JDM bros or something?

Yeah they apparently are pretty easy to remove (why that would be the design on a convertible is beyond me) and the bros like putting them in their riced out civics

When I had mine one winter I popped mine out and put them in my living room. I thought it was cool. But yeah, super easy to pop out.

You probably already know this if you frequent S2KI, but your friend can get seat locks here if he gets his seats back and top repaired. I hope everything works out for him.

Yup, I have seen S2k seats in all kinds of cars from Subaru Brat to JDM madtyte stancenation civics. One time I bought an S2k seat to put in my S2k from a guy with a civic.

And don’t even get me started on antennae. Mine has been stolen at least twice.

Really sad, they probably sold them on Craigslist for $300. They sell a lock kit to make it harder to get the seats out, but I’ve heard of theives slashing the seats in anger. If that happens you aren’t any better off, but at least the theives don’t make any money.

Unfortunately, not enough identifying marks to find the originals. Trust me, had mine stolen years ago. It was painful, and it was at an early time of the AP1’s where I knew everyone in a 300 mile radius who owned one. Police didn’t care about them, even when I found the people that were selling my own seats back to me. Insurance didn’t care either. So what happened? Insurance reimbursed me for the money that I spent buying my own seats back.

I’m very sorry this happened, and I’m sure you’re gutted. I sincerely hope you either find the seats or insurance makes you whole.

I’m curious — is this sort of thing common for the S2000?

Kinja'd!!! B_dol > Doug DeMuro

Super common. Seems like owners find a more secure way to bolt the seat down, run a hard top when leaving it on the street often...etc.

Kinja'd!!! Archimedes2000 > Doug DeMuro

I know this is sort of necroposting but I didn’t notice it until now. But yeah, it’s sort of common. The seat will bolt into just about any other honda/acura. Every few weeks I’ll see some ratty RSX or Civic hatch rolling about with s2k seats and you just get that feeling of “you didn’t get those legit.” There are two guys on s2ki.com that sell “seat locks” but those are just MacGaurd bolts that have now heads and crazy keys to turn them. There are reports of some people getting seat locks and then when the thieves come they cut the seats up out of anger. So is it super common, no, but does it still happen too often, yes.
