Like the title says I’m wondering what’s the biggest sleeper you can walk into a dealership and buy brand new today?
I know some are gonna mention the Hellcat Charger but it’s not really that much of a sleeper unless you know absolutely nothing about cars.
I’m talking about normal cars that are way faster than they probably should be. Like how you can buy a Chevy Impala with a 305HP!!! V6 or a base model ram 1500 with a 395HP Hemi.
10 years ago that would of been completely unheard of.

Chevy SS because apparently everyone thinks it looks like a Malibu.
Camry/Accord V6 would be a good one because 0-60 in under 6 seconds

Sleeper from factory or potential sleeper?
Either way I would vote for the Express van with the 6.0 or 6.6 Duramax. More of a sleeper than the Ram because while most people don't expect the Ram to be as fast as it is, NO-ONE expects a van to be quick in any way shape or form. I know for a fact that they can hit low 8's 0-60 (6.0L, 15 PASSENGER—not cargo, which would be lighter, with 360,000km on the odo, stock). That's fast enough to require full throttle to get away from for most new cars, and as fast as many cars. Much more than you expect from a van.

I’d say the Forester XT is pretty unassuming looking to most people. And I’m sure most would think it’s just another CUV.
Chevy SS is another one, but lets face it, no one is buying them.

Even if it did, I don’t see the issue. The Malibu isn’t bad looking, even though it isn’t spectacular. Besides, the last Impala was just a slightly breathed on version of the Caprice, styling wise.
The SS is a sleeper. As it should be.

I don;t think the Lincoln counts, simple by being a (or so I’m told it is) “premium” or “luxury” brand. A lot of people just assume a name plate like Lincoln would be a powerful car withe they are or aren’t actually. I can’t agree on the flex or Taurus enough. probably say the flex even more so. wish I had thought of that first actually.

In Europe, we have the Skoda Superb. It’s a rather boring, but surprisingly spatious and practical family sedan/wagon. Most of the Superbs have the 2.0 TDI, which is a decent engine, but the 140 hp is not too much when it comes to moving this pretty large car.
But then there is the 3.6 V6, with only very-very small differences in appearance.

I don’t like GM and would play that card if I actually saw it, but I don’t. The Malibu looks like a blobbish FWD car, while the SS looks like a sporty RWD sedan. The SS looks like the Malibu in the same way the 300 looks like the 200.

Cadillac XTS Vsport. Sure people know some Cadillacs are fast, but the XTS is a fwd geriatric-mobile concession to “traditional” (i.e. ancient) Cadillac customers that shares a platform with the Buick LaCrosse and Chevy Impala.
“I’m gonna tootle along from my 55-and-up golf course condo to the local grocery store at 5 under the limit,” is what you think when you see an XTS. Except the XTS Vsport has a 410 hp twin-turbo V6, awd, big brakes, and magnetic dampers.
So maybe the golf course condo set will at least use it to maintain the speed limit.

Nah, I work on Audi, they’re one of my clients. just glancing at an S8 you don’t see 0-60 in 3.5 It just looks like an overgrown A/S6 or a really overgrown A/S4. You expect it to move sure, but you don’t expect it to be in Corvette territory. I mean the 2015 Stingray w/Z51 does 0-60 in 3.7. Let that sink in.

Yeah the flex is definitely high on the list. Who would expect a soccer brick to be that quick.

I know it’s damn near batshit insane. No family car “needs” that type of push but I love that it does.
Top trim Silverado 1500 had the 5.3L and 295hp 10 years ago and now we get that in the absolute base model V6.
What a world we live in. The worst part is 400+hp trucks of today are more fuel efficient than the 200hp V6 of 10 years ago.
