I posted a comment on the FD article about 2 weeks ago about the guy I work with who’s ‘93 RX7 has been parked in his garage since 2000 after it started leaking coolant. 55k miles, rebuilt turbos and seals replaced at 45k. It still has a coolant leak but in the past month he finally looked into it and he believes he knows which hose it is... can you guess the price he wants for this?

Well, it was 9k but I talked to him this morning and his washing it and taking it down the road a mile and back got the itch to keep it surfacing and now it is 10k. He is also emailing a couple guys off here that I put him in touch with last week, if I scoop it up from under you (if I can convince my wife), I’m sorry.

Then again I would never give more than 12000$ for an america RX7, but my guess is that the guy wants something like 25k$...

Why? Apart from the Australian LP version of which only 50 were made, the NA version isn’t dignificantly different from the Japanese market one.

Since I work with him, he said the price, for me, would be 9k. :O He’s told me this for two years but I never saw pictures; now the pictures have me considering it as an investment to fix the leak and sell it along (though my wife may kill me).

A coolant pressurer tester is $90 at Harbor Freight. It’s easier to ask for forgiveness then permission from the wife (although I recommend you upgrade the living room couch to something more comfortable and cloth as it breaths better.)

He says you can see the hose that failed he just doesn’t have the interest or the confidence to replace it himself. You can buy silicone hose kits for ~$200.

I want to now that I’ve seen it. Until now it was just ‘this car I harassed the guy at work about’... now I want it. If I buy for 9, put 1k into it and sell for 15 a month later I think I can justify it to my wife.

The math works for me! My friend bought a 70’s F100 recently, and got his wife onboard by explaining he was going to flip it. I thought he was just using that to get her to agree, and would end up keeping it in the end. Sure enough he bought it for $3k, put a $1000 into it and sold it for $6600.

Because I don’t live in the US and in Japan where I am, these are found with similar or less mileage for 5 to 8000$. Spending this kind of money in an RX7 is literally insane to my eyes...

12000$ would be my absolute last price for a loss mileage rx7 in great condition as I understand that these are rarer in the US than in Japan.
