I’m working on cleaning up an old wagon for my kids. The sidewalks in my town are brutal, so I want to put some bigger pneumatic tires on it. Is there a way I can take these star nuts off in a way that I can reuse them? Or conversely, are these something I can buy? I’ve never seen them, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t looked at them a thousand times without noticing them.
What say the Oppoverse?

Almost seems like you need to pry it off with a chisel or something. Then hammer it back on.

You can get them at parts and hardware stores. Bring it with you to match up the size.

Penetrating oil, then Vice Grips, then get new nuts.

It’s an old Sears wagon, but it looks exactly like an RF. Since Sears doesn’t actually make anything, I’m reasonably confident that it was contract manufactured by RF for Sears.
This wagon was my wife’s as a child, and her dad used to work at Sears, so EVERYTHING they have from that era is from Sears.

Yeah, the nuts are cheap. I think they might even sell them in the hardware drawers at Home Depot.

Sadly, push nuts are one use only. But they saved the factory a few bucks!
Luckily for you, they are extremely inexpensive to replace after you use the ISO standard “shatter them with a punch, give no fucks” one-two method.

I only did it twice. I used a small screwdriver and pried each segment a little bit out ‘til I got it off. Took a few minutes, but I got them off intact

Cut it off with these.
Like others said, it’s called a push nut and is likely missing a plastic cover. You can find them in the pull out drawers in hardware stores.
