What is ,“You’re overqualified for that position and you should have known it.”?
Jeez.. It’s a loong story and I’ll spare y’all.
At least I’m only being transferred (for now) and not booted. Time to double down on sending out resumes!

So I guess it was your job to make sure to look at your own qualifications when you hired yourself? Or is the boss just blaming you for his own mistake of hire?

Ever since the recession more people are over qualified because the ones that could went back to schools and certificate programs. I had a friend of mine that ran a pizza place where all of his drivers had masters degrees.

That’s what confuses me. I applied and interviewed for a spot I should have been just right for.

Personal opinion, MBAs are a dime a dozen.

I’m with you. Oddly, my lack of one has played in my favor.

*Can be, but I mostly agree with you. Places that OFFER them are a dime a dozen. Good places are expensive, hard to get into, in person, full time, etc etc etc (aka inaccessible to most people).

Oh, so you’re saying that you didn’t walk into the interview room and ask yourself questions and look over your own qualifications? Huh. That seems to be what the boss is accusing you of.

I’ve noticed that to, unless you get one from a top 10 program. It’s pretty pointless.

I hate the concept of “overqualification.”. If you’re willing to do the job for what they’re willing to pay, what’s the damn problem? It really only makes sense in term of employee retention, but when they’re the ones moving you, then it makes no sense at all.
Good luck on the job search!

Which is why most of them come from University of Phoenix.

Yes I agree. This hits close to home for several reasons. Anyway, one main thing is that some businesses are reluctant to hire people who are used to having a certain pay grade and could easily ascend in the company because of their skills. They want someone moldable yet content. Someone who isn’t a threat to their shoddy, complacent work force.

Sometimes people ask me why i still work my current job. And one of the many answers is the sheer bullshit of stuff just like this.
