Get in my wife’s CX-5 to go to the store this evening, and I’m greeted with this.

Kinja'd!!!

It went to “0” right after I took this and I made the 2 or 3 mile drive to a gas station on 0 miles to empty. I know the fuel readers on these cars are pessimistic and say there’s less fuel left than their really is, but still. Makes me nervous.

In what world is that a reasonable amount of gas to leave someone? Doesn’t one get nervous when that amount of fuel is present in the car and choose to fill up the tank before going home?!

My wife will not get gas unless the warning light is on and even then she’s like, “Ah, there’s about 20 miles left when that light comes on.” I give her props, she’s never ran out of gas completely. And unlike you sir, we do not borrow each others cars or own one together even, so it’s officially not my problem :)

My wife does that incessantly as well. Makes my eyes twitch.

If you took your car, then you would have won.

But you didn’t, so you lost.

Classic wife move. Source of many an argument.

For short trips like that, I usually take the CX-5. It's a good thing I did tonight, I guess.

Is that when the reserve is used? My Kia is dead empty and still has 2 gallons. My miata gets close and I can’t hear anything slosh on the tank.

Not married. But I’ve found that my coworkers are equally irritated when I leave the microwave with 1 second left on it. Now that I know that...

mine too... “you are going to give me a heart attack, dear”. Doesn’t carry any cash if something happens. Starts to get ready 30 seconds before we need to leave so we are routinely late. Parks by braille - “dear, stop, stop dear, stop now dear.”

My wife sends me this:

Millage 166037 price 2.479 gallons 13.083 total 32.43

So I can add it to the fuelly app.

My wife does that in every single car every single time. I guess it’s her way of living dangerously, but it drives me crazy.

Maybe this was her trick to make you buy her some gas!

I start to tweak when I’m below 1/4 tank and that’s still 5 gallons... yikes.

I have a different problem. If I use the wifey-head car to do something short and sweet instead of firing up the truck, she’ll drop a hint that I used her gas (like I don’t end up hitting Costco for her when doing a Home Depot run.)

No wins, just a pick your battles thing. This isn’t a battle I want to fight and one I can’t/won’t/don’t need to/or want to win. So - fill’em up. Smiles all ‘round.

I mostly tease her about it. Very rarely do we have actual fights, especially about little things like this. For that I'm thankful.

My gf is on e a lot. Start going somewhere: crap, forgot to get gas again. Guess we’ll be late again

To be fair, I never have cash and she usually always does. If I am traveling, it’s almost always with her, so I make a point of getting cash on the rare occasion I travel alone.

She probably likes it this way anyway. She knows I won’t have any money for strippers or blow. (I would never actually do either. It’s never not funny though.)

Nope.

Just got home from the airport. I don’t have the range display on, but I had 1/8 tank when I left, fuel light came on about 20 miles from home, and the “WARNING LOW FUEL” flashed about 10 miles ago. I’m tired and the gas station is sketchy at night. If I can’t drive 4 blocks without running out in the morning, I’ll bike to work...but I bet there's at least a gallon left.

Even if I still have over 100 miles of range, I do too. I don’t know why, I’ve never ran out of gas before, I just don’t like having the tank go so low.
