Stop. Please.

After finding out a member of a car group I’m part of had been killed in an accident, one member made the above comment. I’m not sure why, but it so rubs me the wrong way. So detracts from the gravity of this situation.

It just seems...wrong.

It’s because so many people really don’t know what to say when someone dies, so they resort to canned phrases they’ve heard before. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

Look at how many “thoughts and prayers” or “My condolences” or similar you see whenever someone dies. We just don’t generally know how to deal with someone who’s going through that kind of grief.

But I do agree- it’s a pretty inappropriate comment.

Yeah, it’s really wrong. That’s like hitting on the widow at a wake.

I find it awesome that no names are blurred out. Simply turning this over to the Fast & Furious fans would ruin this guy’s life. ‘Cause they ain’t got friends, they gots family, man.

The whole western notion of “condolences” and “sorry” rubs me the wrong way. I almost never offer it in written form, but simply ask, “Is there something I can do for you? (really really meaning it)” after acknowledging the news with a “I didn’t know that” or “Yes, I’d heard that from blah.”

In this case, they forgot where they were or have shown everyone where they were. I’d have trouble putting them into any inner circle of mine - not because I didn’t like what they did, but because they showed me who they really were and I choose not to have them close to me.

yeah, that’s a touch on the insensitive side, but he might’ve (read: hopefully) meant well.

personally I don’t feel that’s wrong. Hell I want people to joke around and laugh at my funeral. I want them to shoot my dead body out of a cannon if I could.

That’s because Paul McCartney’s not actually dead yet.
