Also NYC experts. We are making a trip to NYC from the northern woods of Maine August 16-18. We’ve been there done that with all the touristy stuff and looking for fun things to do. Our favorite part of NYC is central park. Looking for good food and good times that are family friendly.

So they are cool with visitors? I wasn’t sure how it worked.

Have you seen our space shuttle aboard the Intrepid? Becco, in the west 40s is a great family-friendly Italian restaurant - all you can eat pasta and pickled octopus. For a slice of what New York used to be, Eisenbergs - http://eisenbergsnyc.com/ess/home/ - tuna melts, pastrami, and egg creams. And Chelsea Piers offers lots of family fun.

I went a few years ago with my friend and we were the only ones there at the time. They seemed pretty busy though so we kept to ourselves after talking with jbh for a bit. I suggest you let Aaron Brown know since jbh isn’t there anymore.

But apart from that, have you been to any zoos/museums or Coney Island?

Yeah Becco’s seems like a winner. People have suggested it before. Who can resist pickled octopus?

We haven’t been to the museums but we’ll have a 5 year old in tow. We’ve been to the zoo. Not Coney island that really would be worth a visit.

If the weather goes bad, check out http://www.modernpinballnyc.com/ ! It’s basically a pinball museum where you can play the machines! They’re all on free-play, and it’s something like $12 for an hour.

If it’s nice out, go to the Conservatory Water and play with r/c boats! http://www.sailthepark.com/

It might sound kinda dull, but it’s actually a lot of fun!

The natural history museum on central park west is great for kids, albeit crowded at times. i spent many many hours staring at the dioramas with stuffed animals from around the world, when i was a kid. (also, i dont think the world is a place where exotic animals can be hunted and stuffed for display anymore.) and dinosaurs. lots of dinosaurs. and the planetarium there is pretty cool too.

coney island is a fun time with the rides and shows and food. the beach there leaves something to be desired.

The kids are actually big night at the museum fans so that might be doable.

It’s so easy to take the city for granted. I just moved back after being gone for 3 years, so I have a long list of things I want to try!

If you are looking for places to eat, check out restaurant.com. They have some sweet coupon type things where you buy it for like $10 and you get $25 to spend. There are quite a lot of good ones in NYC. Also, I really love just going to random shops in Chinatown to eat. There are lots of different places and it is usually very cheap. If you are looking for something interesting for lunch downtown, check out Peanut Butter and Co. Very interesting sandwiches! Also, Insomnia Cookies.

Yeah and my perspective is from recent college student so I am sure there are better, more expensive things out there. But both those places are excellent for the budget conscious lol. White Chocolate Peanut butter BLT is a great sandwich, would have never guessed before I tried it!

That sounds pretty bizarre. I’d eat that though.

I’ve got 2 kids so cheap is a win and peanut butter is a win.

There’s an amusement park still at Coney Island, renamed Luna Park it’s great fun for kids.

Take them! The Museum of Natural History is really the best for children as well as adults and it’s something that has stuck with me since I was a kid going there on field trips.

They also have an Imax theater in which they show short 30-45 min movies. They have one now that I believe is based on COSMOS and is narrated by Neil deGrasse Tyson

Wouldn’t bolts make falling better?

But seriously - I was involved in a back fixation litigation back in the 90s, and the trapeze isn’t a good idea. But the wife?

I’m a few days late here, but you should check out Prospect Park in Brooklyn. I like it a lot better than Central park, and the Brooklyn museum and botanic gardens are in it. There’s also a lot of nice restaurants in the area, and it’s not too far from Brooklyn Bridge park which is beautiful.

Also, if you want the best pizza ever, check out Graziella’s in Fort Greene. Totally family friendly place, and there’s usually not a big wait to get in like the touristy pizza places (Grimaldi’s...)
