Anyone up for an E30 Touring Euro delivery?

My ‘89 E30 Touring will be done this week. It’s in great condition (not pristine) and has been significantly overhauled and will not be overly expensive ($4.5k). Question: who’s interested in an Euro delivery? Fly over, have a long road trip in it and that take it with you to the US. At >25 years old it’ll be legal. (repost for the afternoon crowd)

Kinja'd!!!

I’ll be taking new pictures next Friday.

Replaced in 2015: viscous clutch, exhaust, rear brake lines, rear brake discs + pads, radiator, steering wheel, fluids, filters, plugs, shift boot and some misc items. I also replaced the front seats (matching unripped interior) and swapped an original leather BMW steering wheel back in. There’s also a period correct BMW Bavaria CIII radio. There are no rust issues I’m aware off, although you will find a little if you look hard enough as it’s a 26 year old German market car which had some use. Only known issue: headliner isn’t very nice.

Price suggestion: $4.5k for the car and my help with everything on the European side. This excludes shipping costs, the paperwork in the US and possible temp plate/insurance costs. I will help you get those plates though, and if needed I can drive the car to a shipping company.

I could bring you 150 crisp one dollar bills, but I have a feeling that may not be enough money.

Do so every day for a month, and the car is yours. February is disqualified.

You know, that car’s not half bad. I’m not looking to buy something (if i was it would probably be this , in spite the price), but this is tempting non the less.

Tell me one thing though, is this RWD or AWD? What is the viscous clutch for?

How much does shipping in a container to Baltimore or Newark cost normally? I’m trying to put together a general cost of shipping a Land Rover 127/130 Double Cab over from Europe (would rather have a LHD than trying to convert RHD as it is a PITA) so that I have a number to work with on the SWAMBO.

Container? No idea to be honest, but RoRo (roll on, roll off) is probably around $1500 or so, give or take a few hundred.

If you use a vacuum bag and a very strong vacuum cleaner it might work. Are there weight limitations to such a bag?

It’s a RWD 320i with the straight six and a manual transmission (see the build sheet I added). The viscous clutch is the part that regulates the radiator cooling fan. Fan clutch might be another/better description. English isn’t my first language either :)

That’s actually cheaper than I expected, thanks!

Ah I see. It is a viscous clutch after all, so you’re right. The thing that mislead me is that the iX models’ AWD system also has a viscous clutch in the driveline...

Very interested, but sadly impossible due to family/time constraints. GLWS!

Yes, that’s exactly what I’m asking for. It doesn’t include shipping though.

I think for the money that’s not a bad way to go. Unfortunately the state of California doesn’t like cars this.

I’ve been trying to convince my Dad to import it. He likes wagons, straight sixes, green, e20s, and manuel transmissions. He isn’t biting. I’d be maybe buying it for myself if I had the cash to spare at the moment.

I know that a full container costs around $4500-$5k from Italy to North Carolina. When we had this, it was for a container full of motorcycle wheels, brake pads, etc. At least 2,000 lbs if not more. I would assume the price to be roughly what durrtlang said.

Honestly, $6k on an e30 touring is a smokin hot deal. Guaranteed you could flip it in the states for at least $10k.

Does he care about roadtrips through Europe as well? The car is currently located about 10 minutes from a speed-unrestricted German Autobahn. Anyway, I’ll create a new post this weekend or Monday with the new pictures I’ll shoot next Friday.

I’ll have to see if I can sell him on that one, but unfortunately, I don’t think that there’s going to be a beautiful green E30 Touring heading to Florida any time soon.

This is a great idea - you should start some sort of Oppo Euro Delivery travel company - even if not a full package, price of car + list of everything else you need to do would be invaluable for someone on this side of the pond who can’t even figure out where to start! For those of us who can’t afford a brand new BMW (and would rather spend a few grand on something older and more unique) this would be an awesome option.

The wife-to-be and I are talking of an Euro trip next fall - if I actually lived in a place I could have another car (and didn’t have 3 already) this would be an awesome option.

Also given the price differentials sounds like it would work out to be a great deal for someone from the US market too. As someone else had mentioned, even a run of the mill E30 325i coupe can go for around $7k these days if it is clean - so a rarer model like a Touring could easily be worth $10k at least to the right buyer. $4.5k for the car, a few grand for shipping and paperwork...it would still probably help cover at least your plane tickets to Europe and back if a buyer wanted to flip it once it clears stateside.

I do like the idea of providing that service, but I fail to see how I can market this better. Post it on oppo, and it’ll be on page two in no time. I don’t want to spam, so I keep reposts restricted to a minimum.

Anyway, I actually have more >25 year old vehicles I want to sell. These two below were bound to be shipped to the US in July, but the oppo member who was going to take them disappeared.

1988 Peugeot 205 GTI. In absolutely great condition, for $6500

Kinja'd!!!

1990 (early, so >25 years old) Citroën BX diesel. A little bit of a beater, but everything works including the hydropneumatic suspension and the infrared remote power locks, runs fine, no rust issues. Some fluid incontinence and a crack in the windshield that’s been in there for years (out of the driver’s sight). $1500. Automatic (ZF) transmission.

Kinja'd!!!

Take the Citroën and either the BMW or the Peugeot and I throw in a significant discount :)

Are you doing this as an individual as a side project, or have you set up some kind of corporate entity (not sure how things work in Europe) - registering a business is pretty cheap and easy at least out here and I would recommend going that route - even if it turns into nothing, hopefully it won’t be much work? If you get some kind of basic website set up I’m sure you could get some word of mouth out there through Oppo and perhaps other social media platforms - I would suggest doing small review write ups and/or videos of the cars you get? For example that 205 GTI looks amazing - I can guarantee that there’d be quite a few Oppo members who’d love to read and hear about it, and thereby generate some level of interest in your business too.

Of course it’d be a low volume operation - and most would probably just be interested in buying a car and getting it shipped out here instead of the “Euro Delivery” package - but that might be a cool way to differentiate yourself or build your brand with.

You’re certainly one of the better known Oppo members and seem to have some interesting cars out there you’re trying to sell - especially if you’ve got them on hand already, might as well try to make some kind of platform to market them on and show off the cars with some info about them?

If it helps, I shipped an Italian microcar from the Adriatic coast to the West coast (Canada) for 2,200 Euro a few winters ago. That got me a sealed, 20-foot container shipped from origin port to destination port and included full insurance. The car had the whole container to itself. :)

Also FYI, the longer a container you get, the more it costs, BUT you get more “feet per dollar” with the larger containers.
