The whole Golem clan ran the Color Me Rad 5k. Mrs. Golem ran a 10k the night before.

Now when I say ran I mean Mrs Golem and Golemette ran it. The littlest Golem and I did some jogging, trotting, walking, carrying and sitting. I definitely had more in me and could have jogged some more but my son wasn’t having it. I probably carried him on my shoulders for 25% of the race.

I hate running, I am cynical about the whole hype in this race and I hate that top 40 pop crap they played all over the place. Afterwards I was asked if I had a good time. I honestly answered no and I wasn’t believed. Will I do it next year? Probably.

Wow, your family ran 5,000 miles in one day? Impressive.

i’ve done a few of them. The first few i pushed the kids in a jogger. they either loved it or hated it. One of them with about a mile left to go they decided they had had enough and wanted to tell everyone about it by crying at volume level 100. I also hate top pop. If you stick witht eh running, you;ll find its a great way to drop some lbs.

I am wearing my color me rad shirt right now and just got home from a run. I too hate running but my job requires me to do it. The color run is a for profit trendy enterprise, but it's good family fun at the very least

I don’t plan on sticking with running. My wife started running and dropped almost 100 lbs so I know it works. I could stand to lose a number of pounds but I will not lose them by running.

I’ve made some changes in my life after I broke my back and I’ve been exercising and eating much better. Mostly just been putting on muscle mass at a similar rate to losing fat weight. While I’m losing gut I’m maintaining a similar weight. Pretty weird.

Yeah the girls seemed to get swept up in the whole party aspect of it. They had a blast. My sister came and brought her sons and they all loved it as well. My boy and me are the cynical bastards of the group.

Ah, just like his old man!

I’ve tried running. 1 mile I can do at a jog pretty constantly, but at a run I run out of lungs about 1/3 through and gaspvomit the whole stumbling rest of the way. I’m not badly overweight, just not in shape and not built for it. I’ve made a couple attempts to stretch my range, but I think cycling will be a better bet. My knees aren’t so good.

I ran a 5k last February for the fist time in my life. For me (fellow back surgery patient, remember?) it was the first time I could remember since elementary school that running felt good, and I’m 43.

My back problems mildly to moderately subtracted from me living my life for over 25 years. Did I have a good time at the 5k, including the running part? Yes. Would I do it again? Yes.

I’m not a runner, but I can do a few jogs and get back into the 5k world without much injury. I do a lot of stairs at work (up and down 11 floors a bunch of times) because running is just..so..boring. I can hike all day, but just something about the repetitive pounding and limited scenery doesn’t do it for me.

All the 5k’s I’ve done (6-7 now) have been pushing my 40#+ son in a 30# stroller, so definitely handicapped. I always thought 5k races should have a special class for stroller pushers...around here, it’s like 10% of the entrants.

haha I had my son on my shoulders. I wish I had brought a stroller for him. Next year he’s riding his bike!

I hear you. Nothing quite like that vague lightheadedness you get with a kid on your shoulders, pushing oh-so-slightly on you carotid and jugular :D

I’m a huge fan of framed hiking backpacks for kids under 40# (you’re probably past that now, since you’re talking bikes). My son and I probably logged 100+ miles when he was 1-3 years old. Sometimes even at a light jog, at least until he says something like “Daddy....my wee-wee hurts”

Yeah, he was not impressed with me trying to jog with him up there.
