My battery and ebrake light have been on lately and I finally went to look, 2 days and driving a few miles tops with the light on intermittent. The damn thing to the alternator wasn’t even really connected! All my fault though so I'm over it, plus I made it back to the garage with no issues before realizing!

So here’s the big question, new alternator or can this rear post just be replaced? It’s on 03 wrx so replacing the alternator seems like a good option but not necessary.

I’m going to try to pull off what I think is burnt bushings and go from there for now

Got a drill or a dremel? You could always get a steel wire brush attachment for less than $5 and shine it up. Always good to try the cheaper options first. In fact I take the wire brush to every easily accessible electric contact I can find on every car I open the hood of.

Positive or negative cable? That bushing may be there for a reason, but a good clean and sticking it back together should be fine. I wouldnt replace a part unless it doesnt work or the car refuses to clear a code. This is just too simple to spend money on.
