Life for me in the past year and a half has been rather eventful. I’ve been looking for employment back in the auto industry but preferably as a mechanic apprentice to get my hands dirty again.
I was up late Tuesday night/Wednesday morning just staring at the ceiling contemplating my plight in life when I decided to check CL to see what new jobs were posted when I stumbled upon an ad looking for a helper to their technician. Finally life decided to give me a break and let some sunshine in.
Well the interview was today in good ol’ Alexandria, VA. I arrived about 20 min early wearing a nice shirt and tie because I was taught no matter what job you apply for always look your best so as to leave a good impression. The spot is a typical small used car lot except they actually have some decent cars. The gentleman I was looking for happened to be out back on the patio looking over the car list. I sat down and we quickly got to business. Apparently he didn’t write my info down when I spoke with him on Wednesday but that was no biggie. I simply reminded him that I was there for the mechanic helper position that was posted. He promptly informed me that both the helper and the sales position he had posted had both been filled.....
At that moment I was ready to just stand up and walk but I gathered myself and decided to continue this discussion so that I could still leave a decent impression and be on a potential call back list if an opening arose. The more I spoke of my experience in different aspects of the auto industry ,which I’ve now been around for 6 years, the more he warmed up to me. I explained to him that I went to school for automotive repair and also that I have experience selling, detailing and doing basic repairs vehicles. Apparently he became quite impressed and offered me a part-time sales job just to see my work ethic and to get some cars moved off the lot. If all goes well doing that he wants to move me to operations manager and help him run the business.
I almost cried. But as a reward for finally overcoming odds and climbing out of depression and anxiety I rewarded myself with a small bottle of this:
MAN I FEEL GREAT!

Congrats!
Also, you’re in Alexandria? Not far from me. I didn’t realize until recently how many DC area Oppos we had.

You too? There are many of us. An alarmingly large amount. One day we’ll have to link up and hit some driving roads. The best mountain roads I know are on the way to Luray Caverns.

Cracked open the bottle and took a solid swig.... chest hair immediately began to sprout. Forgot the type of kick this thing has.

Definitely going to have to work something out one day. I plan to pay some bills off and get a new car hopefully no later than the end of winter before sports car prices go back up. The BRZ is slowly drifting into budget. Some are already hitting the $15k mark with less than 20k miles on them. I predict by February I’ll find some in my budget around $12k and snatch one up for our spirited sprints next year.
