Going down to Mexico for a week for a fluffy work training thing. Flight leaves on Sunday so I’m probably not gonna get a lot done today. So instead my thoughts are returning to turning my Ranger into a Baja/Prerunner truck
Here’s how she sits today (unfortunately with a blown headgasket)
She just needs some long travel suspension and some nice big flared fiberglass fenders to turn it into something like this...

don’t tempt me... I was thinking that or a 2.3L Turbo swap.
5.0 are quite plentiful as they are the only part of old Fords that survive here in the rust belt

I think if you can get a 5.0 in an Exploder the engine and wiring is essentially plug and play.

Queretaro, its to the North-West of Mexico City. I would love to have one of their Rangers. If you don’t hear from me within a week I’m probably in Mexican prison for trying to smuggle illegal immigrant trucks across the border.

I’d be afraid of having my body be aerated by cartel members if I went to Mexico. But, I must admit I’m not sure what areas they work out of and if where you’re going is trouble free.
As for the truck, the Ranger looks much better as a prerunner than an S10 for some reason to me.

I’ve seen the swap done for a 351 too by the way...Obviously I’m partial to the 5.0, just letting you know you CAN go bigger.

Well the truck has the 2.3 in it now, so sticking it in neutral and rolling it down a hill would make it accelerate faster than it does now.
Also the truck is pretty light so I’d like to keep it light and not put a huge heavy motor in their. I guess the 5.0 will do

5.0 and the 351 aren’t that far off in weight, they share parts even.
if you’re that concerned pick up an older 289 haha same parts as well.
5.0’s are very easy to come by though so that’s a good easy one. Where are you from? This is a project I’d love to be part of...

The thought of screamer of a 289 is pretty sweet, but I’d probably stick with a 5.0 for fuel injection. Ideally I’d snag the whole package from a foxbody mustang so I can get the 5 speed.
