I would like to put a few musical examples on line for my students to download on their own. Can you recommend a good, free file sharing site for upload/download of files?

Dropbox (is that still a service people use) or a google drive.

I may be stupid, but I’ve never had any luck with Google Drive.

I use Google Drive for my students... but mostly just the AP students.

What is the issue you have with it?

People have sent me links to things in the GD and I haven’t been able to find them. That may be their problem, it may be mine. Basically, I want to put 36 MP3 files in a place where my students can access them if they want them.

It’s most likely the permissions. When making a drive, just send an invite to yourself with another email as the recipient and set that link to allow them to view it (don’t let them edit since you can probably see where that will go). Then just post the link for all the students.

Are your speaking of illegal downloads that take money from musicians pockets?

MP3 files of examples of trumpet recordings for HS students to listen to. So it’s basically educational.

It was easier when all I had to do was burn a CD. But that was so ‘90s.....

I hear that. Even a few years ago with iPods where you could just sync music onto it instead of all this streaming crap now-a-days.

I don’t stream. I don’t Facebook. I don’t Twit. I listen to entire albums. Hell, I never even made a mix tape. Remember cassette tapes?

Best I can recommend for unlicensed music is YouTube and a converter for those files. Otherwise iTunes

Sound cloud advertises itself as basically being for this. I've never uploaded to it but it works great for listening

As a half assed musician, we love dropbox.

Any cloud storage should work, I used Drive last year to share with my students. Either sharing it with them directly by inserting their e-mails individually or share by link and just send the link to all of them.
I’ve generally used the last option as our classroom management software makes it easy to bulk mail an entire class.
