Kinja'd!!!

Today was a pretty good day. Work went by quickly, I found out I have Monday off because of a Rhode Island-exclusive holiday (Victory Day, which we only recently stopped officially calling VJ Day, for victory over Japan), and when I got home my P71’s repaired gauge cluster was waiting for me.

While I had the cluster out, I also replaced the gear selector indicator, which had broken. Before doing all that though, I threw the cluster in there, hooked up the battery, and fired it up.

Previously, the odometer wasn’t working and only one or two of my idiot lights were working. So I was pretty pleased when I turned it on, all the lights came on, the odometer came on, and then the idiot lights turned off again, which I’m told is preferable to them staying on.

Then I noticed the mileage was a touch higher than quoted (141k vs 139k, not a big deal), and I was a little upset that the idle hours were significantly higher than quoted (4300 vs 3000). Honestly, neither of the figures bother me...the car runs great, and I have to believe somebody recently went through the suspension, because the car is tight as a drum. Plus it’s possible the seller shipped me back a different cluster that had similar mileage rather than repair mine right away, but either way I really don’t care. At the end of the day, it rides pretty good (compared to my F-150 anyway), handles better than I would have thought for it’s size, and is just generally a nice car to drive.

As to my title (thanks, Professor Farnsworth), well that’s about the badges I put on the fenders a few days ago, and which I almost immediately decided I don’t care for. I attempted to remove them, but man is that 3M tape good shit. They might be along for the ride until I get the car painted in a few months.

Next order of business is to get the thing registered...maybe I’ll do it tomorrow afternoon. I do love a trip to the DMV.
