Just got told I’m headed out the door again, this time to Saipan thanks to Typhoon Soudelor. Anyway, I’m going to have a 5 hour layover at Tokyo Narita. I’ve never been to Japan, so if anyone has recommendations on what I can do to keep busy while I’m stuck in the airport, I’d appreciate it. Have an R34 Drifting for your time.

If you are staying in the airport and can’t get into the air carrier lounges there is a nice public lounge below one end of the terminal. If you can leave the terminal I would hop a bus to one of the local hotels and then grab a quick bite at a near by restaurant.

My roommate has been to Japan a few times. He says Narita to Tokyo is ~51 minutes on the fast train (Skyliner), ~90 on the normal train. The train will take you to Nippori station. There you can transfer to any train in Tokyo pretty much.
He says after 10pm most businesses and trains are not running. If you’re going to be there that late, you’d only find stuff open in Shinjuku, Shibuya, and Roppongi (night clubs and bars). Bear in mind a lot of Roppongi night clubs have signs that say “We are very sorry but foreigners are not welcome here.”

Haneda is better. Narita has nice massage chairs but it’s like 100Y for 2min.

I’ve been once, layover to Singapore. May be worth paying for the air-carrier lounge. They had a beer dispenser in the United lounge, that’s what I did. Beyond that, people watching has to be pretty cool in Narita airport, sit back and enjoy the
hentai
show.

Yeah, no choice on what airport. Had to take the cheapest flight which made it Narita.

We’re running a cost comparison on me staying the night or continuing on as planned, so as it stands, my 5:40 layover will be in the airport.

They have a few restaurants, but mostly western. You have enough time that you could leave security and go to the little shopping area down by the train station. Maybe wander the parking lot looking for cool cars. My rule for when I overnight in Japan is I’m going downtown Tokyo and staying there. Most of my flights don’t leave until the afternoon. Narita Express to Shinjuku and stay at the Hilton.

I can speak well of the Delta Sky Club. Good eats, booze and view of the runway. $25 if you have an Amex.
