We flew Piedmont regularly when I was a kid. Love the retro livery.

Skin cracks on the 737-200/-300 pretty much paid off my college loans. Lap splices, scribe lines, door corners and the skin aft of the wings.

Wow, this brings back a lot memories of flying from FL to MN as a kid in the late 80s. You might as well post some pics of Kirby Puckett and a bunch of dead fish to make the memory complete :D

Do you know how people in the paint shop feel about retro liveries? I thought of this when I saw a picture of American’s retro Piedmont livery.

They love them. We did up our 757 for our museum in retro paint. When the company turned 75 they painted 102 in the same colors as our DC-3. They then painted it back into the old school widget prior to it going to the museum.

Our paint guys have a wall of fame with some of the cooler paint jobs we’ve done. We painted the King of Jordan’s L1011, a 727 for some rich dude with gold leaf on the vertical stab, Chilean Air Force, a 747 for United (yes!) and a bunch of others.

This was local, but I don’t recall having read about it before. The “new investigation” stuff, though - the fuck? How do you “spend several years” studying an accident and base one of your claims on “if the 727 crew hadn’t been distracted, they could have dodged a Cessna Like Unto A Kind Of Wizard”? Also, “the transcript doesn’t note something that people *listening to the tapes* bothered to mention”? GMAFB. It’s like trying to relitigate a train/car accident.

I don’t mind re-opening investigations if there is new evidence; there was no new evidence in that case.

“A Bored Insane Person Decided That Piedmont and the FAA Were an Evil Conspiracy for No Damn Reason” should be the subhed in the Wikipedia article.

Did someone not close that rear door on the 757 completely or did one of you guys mess up the alignment?

j/k

Awesome! I’ve been wanting to visit the museum. I hope one day they send me down for training.

It’s pretty cool. There are some good displays and they’ve done a good job with the inside of 102.

I’m just amazed that Piedmont used a 727 for a milk run between AVL and ROA.
