I wipe the dust away and it’ll be back within the hour. I wonder if getting some hydrophobic coatings for it will help.

Your house has a dust problem, the laptop is just where you’re paying most attention. When’s the last time you changed the furnace filter and/or AC filter? Also, having pets contributes to a dusty house, I know mine do. And finally, a hydrophobic coating will repel liquids, primarily water, if anything you want some kind of static force to magnetically repel the dust.

My thinkpad has that problem, it never looks clean (I take it apart from time to time to do a deep cleaning, it always looks the same) the real problem is the soft texture in the lid, I don’t know what it is , but it always looks like crap.

It spends a lot of time in a bag that was washed recently, so while my house does have a dust problem, I doubt that it's the sole reason.

i think you’d be better off wiping it with something to discharge the static that your laptop is obviously generating. Something like laundry static cling would be ok but could leave a residue and fragrance. Proper alternative might be something like this: http://www.shoplet.com/Compucessory-A…

mine do the same thing... I just end up wiping or blowing it off every few days. I think it’s just static elec, plus the darker machines show it more.
