So as some of you may know from previous posts, I work for an auto dealer group and have an arrangement with the company where I get to drive used cars off the lot, since driving my own personal vehicle to all our different stores racks up mileage way too fast.
For the past week and a half I’ve been driving a Chevy Malibu very similar to the one pictured above. Why? Because my SO’s mother and aunt were visiting and I needed something that’d be comfortable for four people. Today they left, which meant I was ready to drop this godawful Malibu like a hot potato and get something more fuel efficient and/or fun.

(And there’s the Malibu in the background. Blech.)
I asked for this car, expecting to be told no. But the used car manager didn’t care. “Sure, take it” he said. I clarified, “That’s the little sports car,” thinking he had it confused with the XV Crosstrek we have on the lot. “Yeah, I know which one it is. Just make sure you put it on the list so I know who has it in case I need to get it back for a customer.” Score!
The car’s antenna does a good job showing how I feel about this...

That’s a cool arrangement. It’s like renting a car, you never know what you are going to get.

Generally I have some say in it. I don’t usually have carte blanche to take any car off the lot, but 90% of them are fair game at any given time. Usually I pick a couple I’d like to drive and then take one if it’s available. I usually keep them for 2000 miles or one month, whichever happens first- unless they need it back to show to a customer.
