1975 Buick Estate Wagon in the foreground. I love how, in Buick logic, the biggest production wagon ever made, with the biggest V8 Buick ever made, built on the C-Body Electra wheelbase, was only worthy of 3 venti-ports on each side. Interior trim, grille insert, and round headlights were the things that Buick thought made it a smaller LeSabre-like 3-holer.

Also, you gotta love the combo of woodgrain side panels, the vinyl roof, the massive, useful roof rack, the power hide-away tailgate, and the 5-spoke road wheels. Absolutely epic.

In the background, you see a ‘75 Century Custom wagon. I had a ‘76 back in college (11 years ago) with the Buick 350 and no rack on the top. I adored that thing. And even though it was a midsize in its day, it was bigger and longer than my RA’s 12-passenger ‘84 Econoline Club Wagon.

Man, I wish Buick made cars like this today. I wish there were a market for them.

Did that one have the disappearing clamshell tailgate?

Ye’, not as fancy a tailgate but dual light clusters for when the tailgate is open looks great leaving a full width aperture to load into.

Could that estate be a V6? I thought Buick used the ventiports to denote cylinder count.

Nope! The ventiports symbolized the car’s dick length in miles!

The big one in the photo did. The Century in the background had a hatchback style liftgate.

Zero chance. The Estate Wagon came standard with the 455 Buick V8.

The only time venti-ports ever denoted cylinder count was on the 2005-09 LaCrosse and 2006-11 Lucerne.

When Buick started them in the late ‘40s, all models had I8s. Buick didn’t even offer a 6. The basic Special and midrange Super usually had 3 per side, though sometimes the Super had 4. The LeSabre had 3 from 1960-79, but a V6 only came available in ‘77.
