I don’t mind gravel.

I don’t mind loose gravel.

I don’t mind washboard surfaces.

I don’t mind downhill stretches.

I don’t mind curves.

Throw all of these together and yeah, I’ll have that diaper, thanks.

What you described is basically the type of road I really learned to drive on when I was 16 or so. It was awesome.

Still, poo.

I’ll just leave this here

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

With enough practice, I guess I could enjoy it... but I don’t drive much (read:enough) in the dirt.

I’m going to step back and correct what I perceive to be the problem with your comment, otherwise this could go on for a long time.

That sounds like it could be great fun.

At the moment, poo.

I’m saying you appear to be someone with a great deal of experience on gravel. For those of us who don’t, be careful on gravel is never bad advice.

Sorry, forgot to press the shenanigans key when I said I didn't catch your meaning ;) And you're right, it is good advice

That list minus curves plus me at 16 plus my mom’s 92 Buick park avenue plus 80mph equals loss of control and rolling over three times and very mild PTSD every time I thought about driving on gravel for a few years.

It’s not a problem anymore, but I would have very mild panic attacks and grip the oh-shit handles like I was trying to turn coal into diamonds, lasted a couple years.

I like gravel roads. I also really appreciate my 242's mildly torque-biasing centre diff. Currently uploading another run down a slightly faster road.

So do I, in general, but you can screw up so easily. Especially when the corner is tighter than you think, it’s down hill, and it’s a washboard surface because of all the other people who did the same thing.

I just about Oppo’d into an Escape.

The only real problem I had on gravel was 14 hours after I got the MJ, not used to the light back end and relatively large amount of power (I’d been driving a 30-year-old van all summer...) I over steered and went down a steep sandy bank and parked on a stump. If I hadn’t hit the stump I would have hit scourge trees. Got a tow out and no damage, but I did learn my lesson. The only other near misses i’ve had are when people come around blind corners, crests, etc. in the middle of the road or completely on my side of it. I also know these roads really well, and am far more cautious on roads I don’t.

It finally finished uploading... we’ve had some storms go through and we lost power a bunch, but there it is. My favourite road around here by far.
