What do you rad OPPOs think thy fat clumsy wagon would need in mods to be able to outperform a C7 Z06 on the track (without engine swap)? Mods list and prices
My guess would be:
-Full performance coiliver suspension
-Lightweight 18 inch wheels on Michelin Pilot Sport Cups
-Big ass brakes, maybe some R8 takeoffs?
-Performance rods and pistons (internals and shit lol)
-Head work (lol)
-Upgraded fuel delivery
-Supercharger (common for 2.8L) with cooler
-Race headers and exhaust
-RS6 body upgrade
-Random hardware and software dyno tune
All mods with some labor for the things I can’t do..... $18,000- $20,000 USD?
Does that sound right?
EDIT: The interior will most likely need to be stripped :( Roll cage for added stiffness (lol)

Or just do half of those upgrades and you’ll catch the Z06 after a few laps when it goes into limp mode.

is this a thought experiment? or a bet? I think it would be a tall order to match a c7 zo7 around a track but it possible. It would probably ruin the car for everyday use though.

1st thing - Track time so you can be a great driver
Full engine build (as good as you can build it)
Drastic weight loss
Giant brakes
The best suspension you can get
You may have a shot, but the Z06 will be very very hard to beat in the corners with a decent driver.

Track as in road course? I think it still wouldn’t do it. You’d have to head much further into race car territory.

I'd add to that massive weight reduction. Strip out the interior almost completely (save dash, other semi-essential parts), upgrade to a racing seat, harness, maybe a half-cage as well for rigidity. But that's a good list

Take everything just about out of the R8 and make the wagon mid engine

highly doubt it. In the last year (documented on OPPO) my wagon has gone into limp mode 3 times.

Oh, I see. Well I guess you could both go into limp mode and get passed by everyone else.

random brain droppings. Though, if only once on a time attack the fat girl could set a quicker time as the beast that is the C7 Z06, it would be worth the death of the DD

without weight loss is preferable but thinking about it, it will have to be done. Driving skill is key as well. My butt was professionally tunes for Aston, Lotus, Volvo, and Merc/AMG at one point, but it has lost its sensitivity

No. It was just going down the interstate on this occasion, so it overheated doing something pretty much what in modernish car can do without overheating. A new car, especially one that is designed to be driven hard, should not overheat like these have gained the notoriety for doing. E-fucking-specially at under 2k rpm, which is what this should be at in 8th gear at 85.

I think it’s possible and your list is a good one, but I think you would end up spending more like 40-50k unless you did all of the wrenching, fabrication, tuning yourself.

maybe some debris got into the grille? We had a V8 Vantage GT’s over heat at my shop while on test drives. It ended up being bat cat converter of all things. Also, a couple G wagon AMGs because of bad radiators, also brand new. Heck, I remember the early IS-F’s had an issue with deposits on the t-stats causing them to stick.

wrenching yes, but fab work and tuning no. All while trying no to remove the internals but I think it’ll have to be done for various reasons. That would easily push things closer to $30,000

Holy hell there is something seriously wrong with these if that’s happening cruising on the highway. I wonder if the CTS-V is going to do this too or if they shoved enough coolers in it to stop this.
They damn well better be working on a solution for that RIGHT NOW.

Not sure if true, but I saw something about it being the compactness of the car, and that the CTS wouldn’t be as problematic due to having more room for cooling. But it seems to be a bit of an issue, though not as big as the C6Z’s valve issues, because this at least isn’t total failure.

-Suspension: agreed. Ohlins baby. Or KW V3 or PSS10’s if you want to keep the ride at an acceptable margin.
- Enkei’s RPF1 in 18x9 and 18x10 fitments both weigh under 19 pounds and are cheap ;)
- Check out Cayenne brake kits...they are pretty economical option for 14.5” 6-piston brakes! Don’t know if there are any current adapter kits for the C5 A6 body but I’m sure you could figure that out ;)
- Is this a street car or are you going to strip it out?
- Since your car is so much bigger and heavier than a Corvette, I don’t know if a built and blown 2.8L will get you the needed power. Also PES superchargers have a history of being junk.
—Maybe swap in a 3.0T from a junked car and add a full exhaust and stage 2 flash+pulley? 3.0T’s in that state of tune pull close to 400 awhp ;) It should be doable with your budget in lieu of all that custom work.
— Alternately a Stage 3 2.7T will get you there easily, of course they are a bitch.
Also, the RS6 body is beautiful but it won’t do anything performance wise.

So it is. Strange. I always figured as a rule of thumb that the oil was hotter than the water. Maybe it’s the dry sump setup.

expert advise!!! I don’t want to get rid of the fat girl but it is just too slow. Those wheels would be pretty much perfect especially with a big brake setup like that. After some thought, I doubt a built 2.8 would help much also. Poor engine gets no love

IIRC, I read somewhere that the CTS will have better cooling than the Z06 since it has a less compact engine bay. Not sure if they have or not, but the CTS could receive a beefier cooling system than the C7Z since it has extra space. I know with the CTS they got rid of the dry-sump oil system for a less complicated wet-sump system so there could be other changes.

I remember reading that every single hole in the CTS fascia is stuffed with a cooler for something. So hopefully they have it sufficiently cooled.
