On my way home from Caffeine and Octane, I got stuck in traffic for an hour and a half over just a mile (assholes cutting in at the last second made even worse by the assholes who actually let them in.) and my car overheated. Coolant was steaming out and I couldn’t pull over because of all the line-cutters on both sides of me.
But anyway, I thought for sure I’d have to just leave her at home during my road trip with Desu, daender, Sam Stoner, and a handful of others next weekend. But then I went to add more coolant and, hey, there’s gross gunk in here. I just need the radiator flushed. And there are absolutely no other problems with the car, so it’ll be perfectly good to go by Friday! Yay!

Sounds like someone tried radiator sealant at some point to avoid having to replace a cracked radiator.

It’s possible. In any case, I’m dropping it off tomorrow after a doctor’s appointment and I have until Wednesday night for it to be fixed. Hopefully they won’t need to order a new radiator, because I can absolutely afford it but I have work at 9:00 AM on Thursday and no way to get there without a car.

It should be fine. Unless that gunk is blocking a hole, I wouldn’t be too worried about it.

(assholes cutting in at the last second made even worse by the assholes who actually let them in.)
That actually reduces traffic backup by using more of the available roadway. People merging early is what causes slowdowns to stretch on so far. In a perfect world where two lanes merge into one with both lanes leaving about 1.5 car lengths between vehicles, the merge would only require a minor slowdown.

Well yes, but not when there are four lanes funneling immediately into one, and the people in front of me thinking that they’re being nice by letting in ten cars at a time...
Not to mention the entire freeway was blocked when it should have just been the two right lanes.

That makes more sense.
Sometimes I think road crews get some kind of perverse pleasure at unnecessarily closing lanes. My favorite is the “We tore up 4 lanes in one night, but it’ll take us 3 months to repave them.”

It’s called a zipper merge. Please stop being part of the problem.

Except it isn’t. A zipper merge is when two lanes become one. This is just called blocking traffic.
