I was playing Gran Turismo on my PSP (emulator), and spotted this:
the Toyota Voltz. Intrigued, I decided to do a quick write-up, to enrich the knowledge of the people on the Internet.
This automobile was part of a collaboration between General Motors, and Toyota. The Voltz was just a Japanese-export version of the Voltz (Toyota badges and RHD — JDM, yo). Evidently, the Voltz shared the same exterior design, but had an interior with a few tweaks.
The four wheel drive, front-engined, Fremont, California produced Voltz was not especially popular, as evidenced by it’s measly two year production run. With only 118 horsepower, it was not on the powerful side. Only around 10,000 examples were sold. Interestingly, the Toyota Matrix, which shared the same platform, was never offered in the Land of the Rising Sun.

Does it have the Pontiac badge on the front?

No, it has a similarly shaped “V” badge in front.

I’d love to get a Vibe GT and put Voltz badges on it.
Why the fuck didn’t GM offer the RHD Vibe over here as a mail carrier car? They even offered a RHD Saturn wagon for mail use (which had been discontinued just before the Vibe debuted).

What’s the difference between it and the regular Voltz/Vibe?

The Voltz Z/Vibe GT has the 2ZZ-GE engine that goes to 8200 rpm, and rear disc brakes :)
The Voltz S/base Vibe has the 1ZZ and rear drums

The Vibe interior you showed is a second generation.

Interesting! For whatever reason, I always associate the Vibe with being a bloated Corolla.

I kinda agree with you on that, and I do wish we got the regular wagon Fielder and the hatchback RunX.
But as it is, the Matrix/Vibe/Voltz is still an awesome crossover thing, reliable as any Corolla, and with the 2ZZ I like to think of it as an Elise wagon/crossover :p
It only weghs about 2800 lb, so it’s still light enough, and it seems like something Lotus would make it they made crossovers haha
Fun fact: the 1ZZ was available with a TRD supercharger (also sold at Pontiac dealers as “GM Performance”). Someone on here has a supercharged Vibe.

Huh - I never would have guessed it could be done up with a supercharger. I’ve been hunting for a different vehicle for my wife, and I’ve kind of overlooked the Vibe/Matrix. Maybe it’s time to take another look at it.
