Thanks to Windows 10, a number of my drivers (touchpad included) have been made redundant.
I now have a crippled, $1,000 laptop. Oh,

I knew it was a good idea to ignore windows 10, I have 8.1 still with an emulator to make it look like old windows.

Yeah I had to uninstall and reinstall the tochpad driver too. But to be fair I already had had some problems with them a few months back after receiving a mint laptop from Asus and updating to 8.1. I just think that it Asus who shat the bed on that one... (like the Touchpad gestures wouldn’t work for a minute or so after coming back from sleep...)
Because I had absolutely no problem with any other driver, my Logitech mouse works perfectly, external soundcard too.

My laptop actually didn’t need new drivers. Windows 10 provided native ones that worked just as good as OEM.
That being said, just download the drivers you need from the manufacturer’s website and reinstall them. I’m assuming you did a clean install?

Upgraded from 8.1. One of the problems came when my touchpad was rendered useless - can’t scroll.
I shouldn’t have to use a mouse 24/7.

10’s been nothing but a joy on my machine. Even the really weird stuff is working pretty well.

Just reinstall the drivers from the manufacturer, you’ll be fine. All my friends upgraded and they’ve had nothing but praise for Win10 so far.

This is the exact reason I just upgraded my laptop to try it out and not my desktop.
I have enough trouble keeping my damn videocard running in my desktop with the shitty AMD drivers as it is. Only works on drivers from 2012, anything newer it just dies.
Couple that with windows 10’s tendency to upgrade everything without giving you much choice. I’m playing it safe.

Upgrading rather than doing a clean install might be your problem, but that seems really weird. You can pull the product key using ProduKey and then do a clean install with the windows media creation tool.
But before that, do a driver update from the device manager, if that doesn’t work, download one for the touchpad from your manufacturer’s website.
In either case, this isn’t windows “forcing” you to use a mouse, it’s the person who designed your touchpad not making it use certain standards, which is just unfortunate.

who makes the laptop? I have an asus, and the gestures wouldn’t work. Asus had a patch for it though and I got it working shortly.

Lenovo, though I think it’s working now - albeit, the scrolling movement is the other way around. Ah, no big deal.

I think thats a windows 10 thing. My laptop changed that too. I think they are trying to unify the scrolling movement with the touch screens.
