So this is a Datsun Bluebird SSS wheel that came with some stuff in my 240Z. I keep seeing cool suede race wheels but they are all smaller and I like the older size wheels, especially with no power steering in small spaces. Anyway, I am following some DIY instructions online to make a custom cover for it. I went to REI and got this handlebar wrap to beef it up so the wheel isn’t so skinny. Now I have to buy some black suede and make a template. I have to cover a little bit on each spoke, this guy doing a BMW wheel should be the same process. I don’t have an old wrap to copy, I have to make my own. I want to figure out the nice stitch too.

I see how here, do the edge first and joint them, not bad:

keep us updated. I’d love to put a suede finish on my wheel, and being able to redo it yoursefl would be a bonus as I hear suede wears quickly

Well my Z is not a DD so wear and tear is not too much of a concern. I haven’t bought the leather yet, I’m thinking cow is the toughest. I don’t think it will ever smooth out as much as a regular leather. Not sure how well Alcantara wears, but it’s a vintage car so I want vintage feel damn it!

Could you provide with a link to that DIY you’re using? This is something I’d like to do in the future.

I’ve looked at a few pictures but I was mainly looking at how this guy redid his stock BMW wheel. Seems like it would work for anything. I just don’t have the luxury of taking the old leather off and tracing it.

I’d be redoing my a stock BMW wheel as well so that’s perfect. Thanks for the link.
