My phone finally died I guess. Had to buy some cheap Droid thing to keep my unlimited data with Verizon. Now how do I get about a dozen unsaved numbers from this?

Samsung has a program called Kies that might do the trick if your phone is still alive enough.

Is it an app? Screen is unreadable but I can unlock it by feel.

How would I check that? The important ones are in my texts but never added to contacts. Screen doesn’t work but I can unlock it by feel.

Galaxy S4? I’ve fixed at least 6 of them. Probably the easiest phone to work on, in my opinion.

Any cause as to why the screen did this just in the middle of a text? Damage to the top part has been like that for at least a year.

It’s a program that you put on your computer and it’ll connect to your phone when you connect to it through USB. I don’t see anywhere specifically that it can read contacts, but it can create a backup and I’m sure there’s some way to read the contacts off the backup.

Where you lucky enough to save your calls/texts/contacts on the SD card vs the phone itself?

Google backs them up to the cloud. Log in to your google account with the new phone and they should all get downloaded.
...assuming you stored them in google’s contacts app. If you didn’t...well you might be FUBAR’d on this one.

Ouch. If you can plug it into the computer the messages should be in /data/data/com.android.providers/telephony/databases/mmssms.db. But you need root access to get it.

The past couple of times that I got a new Android phone, I used the previous phone’s Contacts app to create a .vcf file with all my phone/e-mail contacts and then uploaded said file to Google Drive. I then accessed Google Drive from the new phone and opened the .vcf file to load all of that contact info into the new phone’s Contacts app.

It is rooted. I will try later but just getting it to appear in android file transfer is impossible. Kies seems to be working.

That’s a good idea. Life caught me off guard on this one though.

Not sure why but my google contacts on my new phone seem to be like 2 years old so yeah.

So your phone won’t turn on at all? If the touchscreen still responds, then maybe you could search for a video tutorial to do it by feel.

Looks like Kies is working for backing it up.

There was more damage than just the screen, probably cracked the motherboard and heat finally caused a failure. Or it could be a loose connection.
