The Audi TT Cup is supposed to be a racing series for amateurs and ambitious gentlemen drivers. In Austria, a whole bunch of skiing stars joined the field, courtesy of FSI sponsor Audi. Not made for amateurs was the combination of weather and track: Spielberg is quite fast, and it was raining at all times on Sunday, even causing a red flagged DTM session. So when the TT Cup had its second race, some drivers lost control and caused a massive 6-car crash. Luckily, no one was harmed at all, and only 6 cars will likely be written off completely.

What’s with the one guy just booking it out of there? How about you help your fellow racers out of their cars. The guy in the inferno I could understand...

If you look at where his car is positioned, you can see that just seconds before, a giant fireball erupted outside his driver’s side window.

What caused the darker car in the back to crash? He wasn't near the crash.

This isn’t 1970. Intervening in cases like these only increases the risk of serious injury occuring. The risk isn’t worth it when you have a fully trained medical team 30 seconds away, and there are still cars arriving at the scene at high speed.

The one that just barely ends up in the gravel? That is where the collision began, the big group slid down the track together afterwards. He just slid straight across the track.

Thank doG for all the traction control nannies. He doesn’t make a move like that without them.

I think the fire next door and being repeatedly hit was enough to send him running but in hindsight he should have stayed in the car or at least hopped the fence.

Runs away from cars and doesn’t help the people hurt in crash! They must be audi drivers.

The F1 race this year had the crazy Kimi crash in pretty much the same spot. That like this had terrible camera coverage.
Maybe they should put a camera in that area!
Also very glad that nobody seemed injured. That Audi that piled in there and T-Boned the other car pretty much came to a dead stop in a matter of a very few feet. Scary.

It wasn’t the same spot as Kimi’s crash... The Kimi/Alonso incident happened coming out of turn 3, when Kimi tried to put the power down but his car snap oversteered instead. This incident happened in turn 2, the kink in the straight between turns 1 and 3.
And how do you figure this incident had terrible camera coverage? The replays show exactly what happened... but the Kimi/Alonso incident didn’t, except for the onboard.
