Standard Boxter/Cayman go from 265-275/240, S from 315-325/300, but the GTS from 330-340/370.

Too bad it doesn’t say if and by how much they get lighter.

I wonder if there’s anything other than software that’s different from the 300 hp and 370 hp versions of the 2.5 liter motor.
On the one hand, yeah turbo flat fours are kinda less interesting than NA flat sixes, but on the other hand, tuning them for much more power is likely that much easier.

Or how much torque they have.

I would imagine there would be slight differences in the turbo and fuel system, but maybe not.

That’s... Unimpressive.
Needless to say it's not on top on my Porsche list.

When Honda has a 4 cylinder turbo making more power per liter than your S, you might need to rethink things.

So the Subaru WRX has a 2.0 turbocharged boxer engine that makes 268 hp...and costs just $26,500. Better yet, for $650 you can buy an Accessport V3 and retune the ECU to make over 300 hp.
So why is Porsche trying to get away with a 2.0 turbocharged boxer engine that makes only 240 hp? And costs $52,000?

I agree that it seems like they are underachieving a bit, but I am sure it’s also underrated. Plus, the turbo means it will take tuning better.

Maybe, but I’m really worried for Porsche. I’m currently at a track day with the New Jersey Porsche Club, and my bone-stock 15’ WRX is easily keeping pace with every stock Boxster/Cayman/Carrera and most Carrera S’s. The WRX’s AWD and torquey turbo add up to more than the sum of their parts.
Maybe the new Porsche flat-4’s will be torquey enough to finally make the Boxster/Cayman feel fast, but 240 hp is really pathetic for a car that costs TWICE what the WRX costs (and likely won’t be any faster since it’s only 2WD)
