The last ones were made in Portugal. And if you want to see how a car like the 2cv was made there’s a hilarious video with awful music:

If the car’s design didn’t require that it basically be assembled by hand, it might have lasted even longer. The French factory was so outdated by the 1980s Citroen did not allow the press or photographers in - in fact French workers refused to work there so the car was built by immigrants.

And I would still DD the shit out of one if I had one. So much charm, and hugely reliable! The engines were run at high RPM for like 1000 hours at a time, which is the same as driving 80,000 km (50,000 mi) at full throttle...
