If you’ve been to an airshow lately you may have seen these beautiful warbirds. These aircraft, and many more including an F-4 Phantom II, B-25 Mitchell, and a Messerschmitt ME-262 belong to the Collings Foundation in Stow, Massachusetts. Here’s an overview and the organizations mission, as taken from !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
The Collings Foundation is a 501(c)3, non-profit, Educational Foundation founded in 1979. The Collings Foundation currently operates the Wings of Freedom Tour of World War II Aircraft and the Vietnam Memorial Flight of Vietnam-era aircraft. Originally dedicated to transportation-related history events, during the mid-eighties, these activities were broadened to include aviation-related events such as air shows, barnstorming, historical reunions, and joint museum displays on a nationwide level.
The mission and purpose of the Collings Foundation is to organize and support living history events nationwide encouraging learning through direct participation in support and honor of our veterans and their families.
However, it would appear that officials in the town of Stow no longer find the organization educational; rather that their events are purely for entertainment. The town also issued a cease and desist which has grounded the Foundation’s fleet of aircraft based on their property. This happens as the organization begins to expand for their American Heritage Museum, which will cover American history from World War One through the 1991 Persian Gulf War.
If you want specifics, you can read about it !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , and I highly recommend you do.
As an aviation and history buff, this has my angry. As a veteran this has me fuming. I’ll be voicing my opinion to the town through the numbers and emails provided in the link.
Please spread the word about this and voice your opinion on the subject to the town as well.

Thank you for posting this. That’s infuriating. I’ve seen a number of their aircraft before and my dad took a ride on Nine-0-Nine (B-17) back in the mid-90s.
I don’t know how you can see the wonder in the eyes of kids at an airshow and not call this educational.

This is bullshit. Historical aircraft are a glimpse into history like no other, a view of modern warfare and it's fighting through that most important of assets- the airman. And that taxpayer money is being wasted in keeping these aircraft down is disgusting.

I just really want to get word about this out. It’d be great if it reached the front page but I doubt it’ll happen.

One thing you can do is edit the post to include the “planelopnik” tag. I know there are lots of folks that check that.

People are so dense. Can’t have those icky gas-burning war machines flying about making all sorts of noise and scaring off the squirrels.
