Changing an alternator belt should be one of the easiest things to do. So why is it that I’d rather do my struts twice over than this....Or take an ice pick and hammer it into my skull while I take two jumper cables, connect them to a battery, and try to jump my intelligence, ?
My frustration with trying to loosen the tension on the turnbuckle for the alternator had me remove the airbox, remove many small parts, pieces, and bolts and screws which are now all over the place, and the compilation of frustration to do ONE simple job finally drove me to most unorthodox and stupid measures with much failure, self hatred and resent.
I grabbed the nearest pair of scissors and cut the belt off; essentially stranding the car in a position that takes up two spots in our driveway, and made me realize I have to take off the power steering belt to put the alternator belt on. And I can’t weave the new belt around the power steering belt either....
What’s worse now, is my friend wants his two jack stands back, and guess where they are.....
On a scale of 1-Lobotomy needed to fix mental stupidity, how much of a fucking retard am I?

I would suggest merely shocking yourself, because electrocution means you die. And you’d be missed.

Standard. I Hate alternators also. Something is always wrong. The first step (of many) in reviving a 3000gt (SL)my dad bought, was putting on the alternator belt. My old roommate/car hoarder should be taking it next week.

Taking the alternator or the car.

You own two Porsches and no jackstands? That’s like bringing a briefcase full of money to the moon.

No, I have two jack stands, but four made life much easier. I’m using two of his and two of mine.

The car.

Just joshing. Sort of. I moved and have to move my garage in a seperate trip. I realized the amount of tools needed to keep my Porsche running won’t actually fit in it. I’m without Jack stands myself rendering my car effectively useless.

Ah, you have a Porsche as well? What kind have you got?

914 so VW really. It’s like a midengine bug but harder to work on.

Early 944 here, so I know the VW parts bin life. It should be as simple as a Mk1 Rabbit, but no.

At least 90% of the parts are cheap. The gouging on aftermarket no longer available parts is quite something though. My heat exchangers cost more than my car. They are just tubes man.. Sigh.

Brutal. Changing the accessory belt on the e36 was an 8mm hex to release the ac tensioner and a torx bit to release the main tensioner. Super easy as far as BMW repair go. Good luck!
