Are there scuffs on your bar ends or anywhere else that would hint and someone knocking it over or backing into it?

Could have been a hairline crack before riding and it only got worse from the regular vibrations. I can’t imagine that happened on its own unless you got a defective exhaust.

yea...thing is, i’ve had this pipe for almost 3 years now...pity it had to screw up.

ah well. guess i’m riding straight pipe until this get sorted out.

That baffles me that it could do that all it’s own. Sorry to see it :(

Kinja'd!!!1

yea. i’m hoping they will be okay with replacing it. if not, time for an even louder exhaust

Oh so it happened while you were riding? I think I misunderstood one of your other comments. Damn that sucks.

07/31/2015 at 09:50

Kinja'd!!!0

yea. thats whats blowing my mind. it happened WHILE riding. smh. I dont know if they will do anything about it either, as it is an older pipe...but they shouldnt fail so catastrophically after just 3 years

are these truly CF? I had always thought the CF was an overlay on a metal exhaust

Kinja'd!!! JKER > bob and john

That’s fairly old, no way they’ll be willing to do anything about it unfortunately.

They ARE a british company, so who knows.

If they tell me to pound sand, I’m going to order a delkevic 8 inch shorty.

Is it possible that the engine is running lean and it’s producing a bit too hot exhaust gasses? If the noise absorbtion matter has worn out the outer casing might also heat up too much.

I have never understood why carbon fiber is used as a muffler outer casing. It hasn’t got many properties that would be really good for that purpose. A really thin stainless steel wouldn’t be much heavier.

They advertise it as no need to re-map. So i just followed the instructorns

CF istn actually that bad. it is way lighter (remember, the can also has to support itself. only 2 points of contact on the bike, the strap and the headers)

a CF VS stainless is about 4-7 pounds, pending on the can

The damages still appear to caused by overheating. I couldn’t think up more reasons for temperatures rising obove the designed values. The resin in CF can’t take a lot of heat before disintegrating.

TAW Performance in Charlotte, NC is the US Distributor of Scorpion pipes.

http://www.tawperformance.com/support/

Give Nicole a call at the 707 number. She handles all the Scorpion warranty stuff. I worked there for 2 years so I kinda know how it works. At the VERY least, they will sell a brand new slip on to a dealer of your choice at HALF off the normal dealer price, and then they sell to you at half retail. Scorpion does this as a 1 time crash replacement warranty. You shouldnt have any issues but if you do, give me an email. wlow636 at g mail

They might forward the email to TAW :) If you can’t get through to them, give Nicole a call and tell her that Will that used to work there told you to call. And don’t ask her about her dogs, unless you want to be on the phone for 45 minutes!

Wow... How long has it been on the bike? Is the bike tuned or still factory tune?

Kinja'd!!! bob and john > iSureWilll

08/27/2015 at 20:40

That’s unfortunate. I’m sure they’ll replace it. Again. This may be a little cray, but have you thought about cutting the can down to half the length?
