What you’re looking at is the trunk of my 08 P71 Crown Vic. What I think it is is a bullet hole. It’s about half an inch wide by maybe an inch and a half long.
The thing about the hole is that the impact, whatever caused it, happened in a really interesting spot. The Crown Vic’s trunk is a big, flat expanse of metal until where it turns downward, which it does pretty abruptly. The damage happened right at that trunk fold, which I think is why there’s so much damage and not just a hole.
Lots of people who have seen it think it was an axe, but whatever caused the impact was moving upwards, and axes are generally swung down. Its pretty clear when looking at it, less so from my picture.
Also, the junk around it is silicone that somebody had used to fill the hole. They then painted the silicone with blue-ish paint...cause nobody is ever going to notice that gash if you paint it a color almost totally, but not completely, unlike the original color.
Anyway, I did get some good news on the car. I found out that I can get it inspected out here without cats on it as long as it doesn't set a code, which it doesn't. So I'm going to register it, get it inspected, then get some high flow cats and resonator exhaust tips to quiet it down a bit.

Definitely not a bullet hole. A bullet hole wouldn't have all the deformed metal around it. Even if it went in at a very low angle there would be a hole with a small pucker around it and maybe a straight crease where the bullet first contacted the metal.

It almost looks like something with a sharp pointy bit hit your car. I’d be shocked if that was an actual bullet hole. Is there internal damage from when the bullet passed through the panel? It that was a bullet, there’d have to be some.

A large yet pointed object.

Definitely impact with a rather blunt something that started low on the trunk and moved up until it pierced. You could not do that kind of collateral damage with something sharp.

It looks most like a pick axe hit, but why would it be swung upwards, you know? I've seen bullet holes that look similar when they don't hit straight on, it's just a really weird impact whatever caused it.

I thought a pick axe or something like that, but I'd think it would be dented inwards more if it was hit with an axe. It's more pushed upwards than inwards. Best thing anybody has said to me is that it looks like it got hit by bird shit at mach 10.

Until I pulled up the silicone, I didn't even know there was a hole...I actually haven't checked out the inside of the trunk since I saw that. I'll be messing with it tomorrow and I'll take a look inside.

It's probably a good thing that I don't have experience with any of my cars being shot at, haha.

The most interesting part of it to me is how the paint wrinkles around the hole. If you see it from the side, the top opening of that hole is pushed up above the flat top of the trunk. I’d love to know exactly what could cause something like this, it's just so weird.

Maybe someone was swinging a pickaxe at the ground but with the car behind them, causing their wind up to hit the car.

I was actually thinking somebody standing on the trunk doing it intentionally, but then why do it only once?

Someone backed into a trailer hitch?

Backed into something. A cross post on a fence or ???
really odd angle for a bullet and too much pulling. Would be flat trajectory with most of the kinetic energy lost.

Now that's one I hadn't thought of. If the hitch was high enough, it would have hit the trunk and maybe forced the car down as the two came together, causing that upward push impact.

My guess:
One of these was stuck in the ground a decent ways (they’re around 4 feet long) and it got backed into. (It’s a big steel bar used for prying rocks or breaking concrete)

Cause they were then shot off the trunk of a police vehicle by cop?

Something that would come up over the back seems likely. A hitch is probably the single best suggestion I've gotten so far.

Trunk might have been in the open (up) position? The fold is usually the highest point then.

I doubt it was a hitch. That hole should be about where your waist is, yes?
