That’s a shit load of money for a Focus. DGAF that it’s an RS. There’s a long list of cars I’d buy before that for 36k!

That’s right in line with the STI and Evo X though. Which you’re paying 36 grand for an impreza and Lancer respectively

You say that like ‘$36k’ is a lot of money. It’s not. That’s only $4k more than the average price for a new vehicle today.

That's scrapin close to the Mustang GT pricing. I need to see performance data and reviews before I would even consider that price cause I go could get a BOSS 302 for that price

The evo will be gone soon, so this is the only competition for it. Gotta hand it to ford for going all in and undercutting the STI instead of pricing the Focus out of consideration range for potential Boostang buyers.

So cross shopping an a3, a4, is250, ats etc etc etc is rediculous with an RS. You are just listing cars under $36k. Go ahead and buy a 25yo Honda and enjoy it. You must have quite the collection. This is a daily driver not a garage queen/trailer to track car. This will carry another set of tires or 3 friends to the track and then be competitive with much more expensive cars.

Eh, I agree with him mostly. It’s a $37k Focus. That’s a lot for a Focus. Golf R seems like a better value overall.

I have the same issue with the STi. If I'm after performance I can go used and get a hell of a lot more car. If I want new the interior better be great for $36k.

I have a Viper, a CTS, and a Fit. For 36k you could buy a bad ass car AND a daily beater, like I have. Then you’re not piling miles onto your fun car.

You suck at reading comprehension (and spelling-it’s ridiculous, btw) - I never said anything about buying comparable vehicles for the same money, just that there was a long list of cars I’d buy before spending 36k on a Focus.

Discounting the NSX as a “25 year old Honda” shows you know shit. I know several people that own said 25 year old Honda and have TONS of fun for TONS of trouble-free miles.

Performance wise I think this is going to be beyond the vw. It’s got 50ish more hp and a better awd system. Subaru can barely keep stis on lots and they are a pretty basic inside. Pricing wise this is only $70 a month more than my st which I consider worth every cent. To each his own I suppose. How is the golf a better value btw? Just wondering your opinion?

To be fair USD$36,000 (GBP£23,000) isn’t a lot in the U.K. car market a current Ford Focus ST1 will set you back £22,500 up to the ST3 at £26,295. Yes I know the RS is likely to be a fair bit closer to £30,000 (USD$46,800). But in the U.K. and Europe performance hatch car market this is very well priced indeed.

You have no idea what people will cross-shop. People cross-shop just about everything. They even go in expecting to buy one car and sometimes leave with both that one and a second one of a different type.

So, respectfully, show the market data or shush.

And I never discounted the nsx beyond it being 25 years old. They are great but I personally don’t fit in them with or without a helmet. I was literally suggesting you get one and enjoy it. I personally like to drive my fun car everyday. Also, I have a short commute so I’m not putting “TONS” of miles on my car. And I don’t have room for three cars anyhow. You are bringing up a totally different conversation if you want to talk about spending $36k on cars. Why are you so mad and why are you poking fun at me? I’m not an editor or scholar, I’m a successful server in a high end restaurant. I Autocross every weekend and tear down and rebuild cars in my spare time. This was a friendly discussion about cars and you say I know shit? You haven't the faintest idea. Because you have some friends with reliable nsxs you are all knowing? Get some manners. Grow up, whatever. If you’d like to be polite let me know.

The Focus RS will be a car you can buy and use as your “everything car”. Daily driver, screwing around, bad weather, picking up friends, hauling things. Your list goes from single use cars, to questionable reliability, to FWD/boring/slow. This car’s competitors are the STI, Golf R, and maybe RS3 and CL/A45.

Despite all the torque-vectoring bells and whistles, I can’t imagine the RS matching the loose surface performance or predictablilty of the STI. It will probably go like stink on tarmac though. The ST torque vectoring makes the car feel like its a on rails around corners, until you hit the edge of grip at least.

Kinja'd!!! Sampsonite24-Earth's Least Likeliest Hero > Axial
07/28/2015 at 23:07

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah because people totally cross shop lamborghinis with cuvs. No they narrow down to a specific market and find one they like. No one is gonna cross shop a BMW 3 series with an f250. Just like no one is gonna cross shop a turbo awd hatchback with a V8 RWD pony car

Kinja'd!!! nafsucof > Short-throw Granny Shifter is 2 #blessed 2b stressed
07/28/2015 at 23:10

Kinja'd!!!0

yeah I suppose the actual comparisons will be the only way we know for sure. I think the torque vectoring on the st is unpredictable. I replaced my open diff with an LSD and an adjustable rear sway bar for more predictable, more linear rotation. The tvc doesn’t do much with the diff installed. So that’s good for my tastes atleast.

Kinja'd!!! Short-throw Granny Shifter is 2 #blessed 2b stressed > nafsucof
07/28/2015 at 23:19

Kinja'd!!!0

I like my ST, but like all powerful FWD cars it feels incomplete without an LSD. That’s something Honda is still doing right with the SI. I don’t have the skills to do an install myself let alone in my driveway like you did. That was a expert level Jalop maneuver.

I agree completely with that first bit! The si has a nice lsd right from the factory crazy right? That’s my concern about the RS though is the possibility of open diffs with tvc instead of lsd. its all computer controlled clutch packs in the rear with a locked diff.

You can find a RS4 for in the low 30s now albeit with high miles and it may be unreliable but they are out there. I mean anything is out there for that price I've found a C6 Z06 for that price though it has like almost 90k miles on it but hey it's kinda a bargin if you can keep it running/it holds up. Exactly. If you’re gonna say “That’s a lot of money for a focus” you have to admit that a golf R is also a lot of money for a golf. If the FoRS is to the bog standard focus as the Golf R is to the plain-Jane Golf, then I fail to see how this is a valid complaint at all.

You suck at comparing a brand new car to the used car market. The RS will come with a warranty and 0 miles. Not everyone wants to deal with a used German car (or really? Who the hell would cross shop a used gen 2 viper over this??). WRX/STI/EVO/R (ALL NEW) are main competors. Find a comparable new car to compare this too.
