These guys came in to lift 10 HVAC units for a Hobby Lobby build out.
Talk about efficient. It took fifteen minutes to lift and set all 10 units. If this were a Crane lift it would have taken 1.5 to 2 hours.
I have some video but have to wait to upload it.

Maybe it was cheaper to rent the helo for 10 minutes vs. crane for 2 hours?

No, it probably isn’t but it’s really the only conceivable explanation I could come up with. My other thought was that maybe the site would be difficult to access by conventional means, but I highly doubt that since it’s a Hobby Lobby. I don’t think they’re building it in the middle of the forest or something. Also, those buildings aren’t that tall, so any conventional crane should be able to do the job.

It looks like a small lift helicopter is only $3-4k for a day (anything under 1,250lb). I can imagine that might have cost them $10,000 or so, while a crane would have needed space to set up, inspections, a lift plan (or critical lift plan depending on the size), plus the site would have needed to support the outriggers, etc. Seems like it would make sense.

Hmm, thanks for looking that up. It does make sense. Even if the up front cost of the helo is more, it may be cheaper in the long run due to lost time, site prep, etc. required by the crane.

It was more about time than money. The Crane would have had to reposition after every two units.
Plus it was all done before the “Rat Patrol” set up their picket line out front..

I’m kind of disappointed that this is a turbine version as opposed to the early ones with a Wright Cyclone in the nose.

Crazy that the pilot walked away with only a dinged up nose. I wonder what caused the tail rotor to stop.

Who knows? I’m sure there’s an accident report out there somewhere. But my guess would be a failure somewhere in the linkage between the engine and the rotor, because the rotor itself looks intact, it just isn’t spinning.
