Everything I’ve read about the Hellcat twins says that you will hear them long before you see them. I was sitting two lanes over this weekend from a “Hellcat” at a light (with my windows down), but I’m 99.9% sure it was just some wannabe with a logo on his 6 cyl Charger. The Hellcat logo was red instead of black, and the car was as quiet as can be. I just want confirmation from those that have been near a running Hellcat that you definitely know it when one is around.

Yeah even at idle the ones I’ve seen were loud

A Challenger Hellcat drove right past me one time and the only confirmation I had that it was a Hellcat was the logo on the fender and the front fascia. It was quite as a church mouse.

To me they are noticeable as cars “with an exhaust” but not really head turning. I’ve seen a few.

I have driven one and seen a few, I would guess you would know. Maybe not at idle depending on surrounding. I know that sometimes automatic versus manual can make a difference on sound, maybe the autos ideal lower. The one I have driven is manual.

It also tends to shoot the noise out backwards pretty good so might not hear if you aren’t behind. Listen for the super charger if you are in front and close.

Also on cold start up it idles at almost 2 grand, in a garage that is quiet loud.

You'd know if it was, at least when it leaves the light, even on a low boil, the supercharger whine is audible, and if they dip into the throttle at all, you'll hear the blower whine then the roar of the exhaust, unmistakable. I had the pleasure to be door to door with one at a stretch of road with multiple red lights, and I could hear all even over the rumble of my Dakota r/t with a 40 series flow master, so yeah, you would know.

When driven with the Red key and calmly/respectfully, unless you were into cars, you’d never suspect it to be anything special.

Switch to the black key and drive like a maniac, and yeah, you’ll be heard long before being seen. Just tape your PBA card to the back window and pray for the best.

Yes, you do. Honestly it sounds similar to the 392, but both are very noticeably V-8s. If you cannot tell when you are two lanes away, it has one of the smaller engines.

I thought it was the other way around?

Can confirm, they are pretty quiet below a certain RPM. I do believe they have baffles.

Something like that, probably.

Either way, the exhaust is active, it opens based on load and RPM. Railing on it in park or at a standstill wont be nearly as nice as on the freeway for a good pull.
