A friend of mine asked for my assistance to prepare his 997 GT3 for sale, by giving it a full detail. Like any good friend would do, I obliged.
As you can see it needs lots of attention.Full Oppo review forthcoming!
PS: I already suggested putting the stock trunk and spoiler back on.

You can put the stock trunk and spoiler on it for me and then steal it and deliver it to me.

I could totally do that! All you have to do is pay a small delivery fee of $85k lol.

Wait, 85k? That’s not bad for a 997 GT3. But yeah, he’d get more money with the original trunk I think. Porsche guys go aquiver for stock.

Ouch, pass. I’ll just buy a new 911.

85k for a 997 GT3?! Shit, that’s a good price. Most of the ones I’ve seen are listed over 100k.

No way. I’ll take a 997 GT3 for that price over a 991 Carrera any day.

I’d rather DD a 991 though.

Yeah the average price for a 997 GT3 is about $125K. His is a 2007 though. Only 22k miles, but still an early one. The later ones are worth more.

The 991 Carrera S is just as fast as the 997 GT3 though, but doesn’t feel as visceral IMO.

Is that a genuine Cup boot lid and wing? Your mate could sell that separately and make a bit of Bob on it, or sell it with the car and get more money for that. Does it have the GT3 car cover?

exactly.

Yeah, 997.2 GT3’s are certainly worth more, but even the 997.1’s seem to have appreciated quite a bit. I remember seeing a market flush with perfect 997.1 GT3’s all sitting in the low 70k range.

Yeah he paid $75k for it a while back IIRC. He’s put over $20k in aftermarket though so he won’t break even. I tried explaining he’d be better off putting it back to stock, and selling the aftermarket stuff separately but he seems hell bent selling it as is.

It is. Do you think it’s worth more with it on? I prefer the OEM trunk and spoiler asthetically..

I’d buy it from him if I could. But I just bought a house which was quite expensive and I’m throwing even more money at it by getting some fancy hardwood installed. And I just bought the GSW..

I think having it off, but sold with the car as part of the deal would satisfy both the purists and the ones buying it for the track. Also being a genuine Cup piece would help from the purist front too.

Ok thanks. He also has the factory CCB’s in a box. Those should add some value as well.

Me too! I want a stock one though. This one is too harsh for the street. He’s getting a 991 GT3.

Me too! I remember wanting a 1st gen Cayman S, but they were too expensive. Then I was getting close to being able to pull the trigger on a used one, and they refreshed it. So I waited again for that one to depreciate, then again almost ready to get one and the 2nd gen came out, and suddenly the 1st gen looked dated. I’d be happy with a GTS. A lot of guys are selling their Cayman GTS to get a GT4 so hopefully they start depreciating rapidly.

The GTS seems like the sweet spot in the current lineup, for sure, especially when someone else is taking the initial depreciation hit. The GT4 is more special, but a lot more harsh as well and less livable to use on the street. And that wing will make everyone think you’re a douche - ha! Don’t care. Still want one...
And I still want a first gen Cayman S, too. I still prefer the rear end of that car to the 981, and it’s got good old-fashioned hydraulic steering. I’m sure they’ll be going for a song before long. $20k for a well-loved example of one of the finest pure sportscars ever? Yes, please!

I almost got a last year 1st gen S. I talked myself out of it, and into the E92 instead. Figured I would use it more since it has a backseat. I also don’t have a lift so maintaining a Cayman would be a lot harder in comparison.

The M3 is such a better all-rounder, and honestly, unless you can carve canyons almost every day, it’s more fun to drive than the Cayman, too. I test drove an ‘06 for grins a while back, and while it was a great car, I was glad to get back into my car.

Next time, ALWAYS add extra for whatever you want, for if bundled with your new pad, the rate is always better, IMHO.
