Friend of mine is looking at a 2007 Toureg 4.2 with 62k miles. The dealer is trying to throw in some 4 year warranty from a company called ASC Warranties. Anyone have any experience with them?

with that car, you need an extended warranty...

Not familiar with them in particular but I know a lot of them either make you pay up front, use certain repair facilities, and will try to not cover things because they are “normal wear and tear” or something you caused.

Dunno, but it’s a good idea to go for it regardless. How much are they trying to get for the warranty?

The wording of the warranty makes me really skeptical that it would be worth any amount of money. https://www.ascwarranty.com/asp/customers.…

Ah, it would be worth it in the long run so it’s definitely worth doing..

I think that’s the company I ended up with when I bought my dodge magnum 5 years ago. Never had to use it and it was kind of a waste of money. After the fact (hindsight and all that) I read through the agreement. For any repair claims we were supposed to contact the warranty rep at the dealership we purchased the vehicle, and if all possible

Bring the car to them, even though we live a couple hours away. It was shady at best.

Does your friend have the option to perhaps purchase from CarMax instead? we know how Doug feels about them. Though looking at CarMax’s website the oldest Toureg they have is a 2009 for $21K, and another 2009 for $22K.

Then again, why a Toureg at all?
