The LTG isn’t in the camaro, is it? Or is it a next gen thing they’re going to release?

Speaking of 272 hp things that need to go in a Miata...

Kinja'd!!!

Even though it’s only 3 liters and naturally aspirated, it manages to put out 240 lb/ft@3k and go on to make its peak 272hp at ~7k. Loves to rev, silky smooth and I4-effecient, sounds great, weighs less than even any of the previous Miata engines, and makes enough power to turn any Miata into a tire destroyer. On a practical level, no valvetronic to turn it into an ECU nightmare. Sorry for the digression, that power figure just reminded me of my want for that swap.

(Still blasphemy, of course.)

I thought the same thing. Apparently, the LTG will be in the base ‘16 Camaro .

Ouch. 6k will get me a FM II system and happy meal. That’s likely what I’m looking at for more power.

How much does a stock NA engine weigh? Some quick googling found that LTG coming in around 320 lbs. For refrence an LS3 weighs a tick over 400.

not sure let me google

I found someone who says a 1.8 miata engine weighs 290lbs with all the acessories. It has an iron block which makes it not so light.

320 is amazing for a turbo motor.

Small gain for a huge bump in power!

320 seems reasonable, it’s pretty much impossible for a OHC motor to weigh less than an LS motor without being at least half the displacement.

Oh yea definitely. The thing that adds the weight in LS transplants is the transmissions usually outweigh whats coming out.

also people dont think that a I6 might put more weight over the front tires which is bad or so I have heard. at least with a heavy transmission it more to the center of the car. or maybe I am an idiot.

No your totally right. It extends further forward, plus, the big cylinder head raises the CG higher.
