Yes, yes it is. I’m very in touch with Long Island (both of my parents grew up there). Every time we go for family events, or just a simple trip to get away, we always have to drive through NJ to get to NY because we live in PA. My parents drive just fine in NJ, so you should be able to too.

No

source - I live in NJ. :D

For real though...you should be able to drive anywhere there is a road...or no road if you have one of those fancy 4WD buggies.

I’ve noticed in some of the replies you mention a ‘permit’. Why would you need a permit to drive in another state? Surely as long as you have a driving licence and the car is registered, insured and complies with any regulations (such as road worthiness, etc...) in the place it’s registered it should be able for you to drive anywhere in the U.S.

Or am I missing something?

Yes, you should be fine. As long as one of your parents is with you (NY license holder), there shouldn’t be anything to worry about. Just keep in mind that state laws do vary. But yes, your NY permit is valid out-of-state.

As long as you have a parent with you, you should be fine. Though I’d honestly just check with NY laws, I know you cant do it with a NJ permit

It’s possible. The question of whether or not is legal is different.

I kid, I kid. You should be fine.

He has a learner’s permit, so the issue is whether or not it’s valid in other states.

Oh right I didn't know what type of permit he was referring to.

In the U.K. (not sure if it’s similar or not in the U.S.) you can drive across different areas as a learner as long as you have a person in the car who has a full valid drivers licence and has had it for at least five years and your not allowed to drive on motorways. A roads, B roads, Dual Carriageways, etc... are okay but not motorways.

Ohhhhhhhh. Well that changes things. I live in Watkins Glen and drove into PA a few times on my permit, whether its really kosher Im not too sure but since you have to have a parent/adult with you I dont think anyone is really going to care.
