That the new Police Interceptors came in AWD.
Oh, and California has a shit ton of unmarked police cars!

I feel that although it's 'unmarked', with a badge saying 'police interceptor', it gives it away a little. Not to mention the thing sticking up from the tailgate which I'm guessing is an aerial, a 'shark fin' aerial would be more discreet.

Didn’t know transverse RWD was a thing.

Unmarked =/= undercover. Unmarked is just so you don’t notice it until it’s too late, like this car. It simply lacks logos, a light bar, and a bull bar. Undercover is basically indistinguishable from a normal car, meaning you don’t notice it at all.

Cambridge, Ontario has an unmarked dodge caravan. It has hubcaps, no ram bar and no visible antennas/lights. It’s even painted beige.
Looks the exact same as this civilian model:

yeah us up north ain’t happy about that AWD either. one of the most fun we had growing up was out running panthers in the snow. we had lots of hills where i grew up and man even the most basic FWD could have fun in the snow and out run the cops when they get pissy about you doing hand break turns or going too fast with blizzacks on your 87 k car! haha grip for days.. damn cops getting AWD ruining every ones fun... jerks

Same as the U.K., unmarked are regular police operating in a police equipped vehicle that’s not apparent from the exterior discreetly, undercover is a completely different game and is just a regular car which may or may not have certain equipment for policing.

I was under the impression that you had the choice of FWD or full time AWD.

Yeah. My dad said a sheriff’s department AWD Interceptor helped pull a semi out of the ditch by his house last winter. Said it was like a tiny tugboat.

It is for many mid-engine cars.
(I know that's not what you mean)

On the Taurus, not the police car. Under features, submenu Performance, note “Standard All-Wheel Drive”
http://www.ford.com/fordpoliceinte…
You can order it as an option if you really want to, but otherwise, they all come as AWD.

Sort of. For true Police Interceptor Sedans (vs. the Special Service variants):
3.5L N/A - FWD (that I’ve yet to see a single agency get)
3.7L N/A - AWD
3.5L EcoBoost - AWD only.
There are some early 3.5L N/A AWDs running around too from at least the 2013 MY. Ford lists the AWD 3.7L as “standard,” I believe if you went for a FWD there is a minor credit applied to your final cost—at least it was that way some years ago.
In the Sedans, for special service non-pursuit rated vehicles, a 2.0L EcoBoost is paired to FWD.

I know I’m a little late to the game here, but there’s actually a FWD version as well. It’s the base model.
