Alright, I picked up a cheap ass f350 Chassis cab. Regular Cab, 2WD Diesel.

It has 170k on it. I ran it for an hour on the auction lot, no overheating, shifts fine, factoryexhaust in tact. It was an old Public works truck for the city. It came with a utility bed, which I didn’t need.

The truck has a build date of 12/08. I’ve read around on the internet about them. From my understanding the 08s had the issues and the 09 got it figured out. I do plan on running the oasis report to see.

My plans are a 3 car hauler trailer, and delivering cars with it. It is an automatic. I have a 7 day warranty on it. So I’d like to get some info, look at it see if it has any big problems. And if it does either fix em or get my money back.

Let me know. I’ve checked the exhaust, radiator, egr and once the service bed is off, looking at the water separator, filter, and pump. Beyond that, I’m a Cummins guy, they work until the motor gives.

I only bought it because it was cheap and I have a need for it, plus a guy who doesn’t have a truck to drive. Thanks Oppo.

If it still has the dpf the motor could be junk. A power stroke professional of mine said the system polishes the cylinder walls because of excess fuel and you get a ton of diesel in the oil, and then bad crank bearings because of it, amongst other things. Check the oil.

Send a sample of the oil to be analyzed

Where’s the DPF at on those trucks? All of my other trucks have DEF on em.

I imagine just down stream of the turbo. My understanding is the excess fuel for recharging the dpf polishes the cylinder walls on the 6.4 causing the rings to stop sealing right. My friend says is iffy after 50-75,000 miles on these. The aftermarket deletes them and changes the tune and fixes it and the mpg.

I looked it up and its just behind the cat on it. It goes down pipe, cat, DPF, pipe, muffler, pipe and then tailpipe.

I’m not at the office so when I get in I’ll look to see when I get in. Its an old city workstruck, so it may not have jt done.

I heard the 08’s were hard on radiators other than that I’ve never heard any major horror stories. Should be a solid truck.

first step is to get rid of that egr and dpf shit. next is cold air intake and straight pipe exhaust. helps mpg a lot. other than that the 6.4 was a pretty good engine.

also cummins only work until the tranny gives.... :)

100k powertrain warranty. All bought brand new. Solves some of that problem. Plus they’re all pulling 20k- 28k on a regular basis.

I’m not looking to roll coal or that horseshit. Just put to work and thats it.

yea 6.4 is a good engine. I like my 7.3 personally but that’s because they are almost indestructible

I’ll stick with my Cummins. I’ve had great luck with them.

For the price I paid I could afford to deal with a couple smallthings and still be under 10k on it.

I’ve poured over the truck myself, and had it checked by my diesel mechanic.

Its got new batteries, turbo, starter, water pump, injectors, valves, rocker arms, and alot of other things.

I figured as much for an old city workstruck. If I can figure out what city this thing was used in, I’ll call and go from there.

I know it came from WV.I had to get the title flipped out for my state.

For 5500 bucks and 170k I think it’ll get at least a year on it and be fine. If it lasts me a year, then I’m content. If my trucks die and have made me my money back that they cost me, I feel I made out.

Just gotta get about 45k each out of my Cummins trucks. I think if this truck works out great, I’ll buy more from the auction, run em til they die and sell em for parts or scrap.

Its how I’ve made my money so far, pay attention to what each truck costs me, and when it dies, see if I’m ahead and if I am either fix it and run it til it breaks or junk itnand move on.

Wow that's a killer price for what if assume is worth more than double to triple what you paid! Good luck with those if they run well they are awesome trucks, my neighbor has an 09 with 50k that is a real stump puller!

Just got it back from the Ford dealer. They offered me double what I had in it.

Its clean underneath, oasis report shows all services taken care of. I guess I’ll call this guy I bought it from to let them know they sold it for cheap.

Its been well taken care of and kept up. I should buy 2 more before he sells em all lol.

Its going to get its gooseneck put on and be put to work. Ive always tried to keep my Cummins the same. I put a note on it to call about the truck and send out the service records if they ask or want them.

I sold an 11 Ram 3500 with 240kon it and it ran fine. Just needed a bigger truck and bought a 5500 to replace it. My trucks run 4-5 days a week, from 8to whenever they’re parked.
