I’m looking at doing one of the Skip Barber schools sometime next year, either the one day or three day. Was wondering if any of you have done either and can offer any advice or input from your experience. Thanks!

I haven’t done it, but want to. It’s just so expensive, but I’ve heard nothing but good things from people who went.

Yeah. I recently got some extra funds, the majority of which is going to savings and eventually a down payment on a house in about a year. However, I figured I deserve to spoil myself with a trip or something. From what I’ve heard about the school, it honestly seems like the best value for the money in terms of learning experience. Rally schools would be fun, but I feel like this will help me improve my skills better.
Not to mention, in terms of a path towards any sort of motorsports career, it seems like a brighter glimmer of hope than most. I’d really like to do the 3 day course and then apply for the Racing Academy Shootout. It’d be awesome just to give it a try.
The 3 day course seems more worthwhile to me, since the one day is around $2,000 and the 3 day is anywhere from $3,300-5,500. Two extra days for $1,300 sounds like a good deal to me. haha

I did it waaay back in 2004, and ran their regional series in 2004 and 2005 (won the Eastern region in ‘05!). It’s a great way to get into race driving, the program starts with very basic skid-pad stuff and works up to driving the track at speed by the end of it. When I did it there was also 0 liability, so if you stuff it you don’t have to pay. That may have changed though.
I’m trying to get work as an instructor with them, so maybe when you get around to it I’ll be one of your instructors!

That’d be cool if you ended up being an instructor!
I’m hoping it’s still 0 liability. One of the main points of this is to learn/get the experience without the fear of stuffing my own car into a wall. haha
