Country singer and American Idol winner Scotty McCreery played a concert at my local county fair last night. It was pretty epic.

Our seats weren’t the greatest, but we had a fairly clear view of the stage.

It ended up being totally packed, for a small county fair. A lot of brobillies were in attendance, but there was a fair amount of actual country folk there as well. Playing a small show like this, the singer can easily phone it in, and not really give it his or her all, but Scotty definitely played his heart out and sounded great. There was a lot of energy, and I’m definitely losing my voice a bit today after the show.

Also, my fiancee and I got to meet him! Only for a split second while he was signing autographs, but we got a photo and CD signed by him, and he at least was nice enough to ask how we enjoyed the show. It’s kind of funny, for somebody with such a deep voice, he’s a really small guy. Skinny, and fairly short, probably about 5’5” or 5’6”, so slightly shorter than I am.

Couldn’t get any pics with him, but needless to say, it was a really good show anyways. We’d wanted to see him play ever since we saw him on Idol, and we actually watched his whole season and voted for him every week I believe, so we’re not bandwagoners. And it’s kind of funny, he told the audience that it had been 5 years to the day since he had his audition, so that was kind of cool.

He also played some covers of classic country music. Old Alan Jackson, old Tim McGraw, Johnny Cash, Roger Miller, and Merle Haggard, as well as Alabama were all featured in that. Nice to see some of the big classic genre names being honored.

Definitely someone I’d go see again. I can’t say the show was as electric as the Keith Urban, Dustin Lynch, and Little Big Town concert we went to back in 2013, but that was at a major venue, sold out, at a capacity of over 20,000 people, and had a much bigger stage, but there’s definitely still that same kind of energy. Anyone who’s been to a concert knows exactly the feeling I’m talking about.

Scotty did a tribute to the troops who have, and still are, serving. When he did that, there wasn’t a dry eye in the whole area. I loved it.

Here’s a video snippet from the show that I shot real quick. Recording wasn’t allowed, so I had to be really fast with it, so it’s a little jumpy.

But there you go. This is my first time meeting anybody famous in person. I have seen William H. Macy, as he went to my high school, and did a presentation there, but I didn’t actually get to go up to him or talk to him, though he was right there.

Also, I’m friends with Eddie Deezen (Eugene on Grease, the nerd from Wargames, Mandark from Dexter’s Lab, Know-it-All from Polar Express) on Facebook, and he’s moved back to my town, and is always around, so I’m going to maybe ask him to go get lunch with me one day and pick his brain a bit.

But, I’m getting off topic. The concert was a heck of a good one. I really enjoyed it!

Yeee Haw! I actually saw him at our county fair last year, I think he put on a pretty good show but I don’t remember much of it, budweiser and whiskey were going down pretty smooth that night

There was no alcohol at my fair, not that I would’ve had a drink anyways, considering it was on a Tuesday night, and I’m up early for work.

But, I’m sure he would’ve put on a good show.

My Dad is friends with Diana Degarmo’s mother. She certainly hasn’t had the success Scotty has. Last I heard she was working in a play.

That’s funny! Just the other day I was actually wondering what happened to Diana DeGarmo. She kind of fell off the face of the earth after her season on Idol.

She really did. A lot of the contestants haven’t done that great. I thought Phillip Phillips would of had a lot more success too. I think they get screwed sometimes having to sing songs that were written for them by the label.

Phillip Phillips, last I heard, was trying to get out of his Idol contract. I don’t blame him. I actually expected more success from Adam Lambert as well. I mean, not to say he hasn’t done well, but not as much as I expected.

Yeah him too. They all have talent, I just think the first hit songs Idol creates for them aren’t really their respective styles. Kind of like John Mayer. He was better before he had a full band IMO.

Except Taylor Hicks. Nobody really remembered him.
