Free laptop? Free laptop. My uncle had a ThinkPad T21 in his attic (and some RAM for it too woo). Downside - no charger and it is missing a few keys, so I would need a new keyboard.

Anyone happen to have a keyboard for a ThinkPad T20/21/22/23 and a charger for a pre-Lenovo (IBM branded) ThinkPad? Thanks

Free computer! Woo. If I had parts, I’d give them to you but I don’t so :(

I don’t have one but the keyboards are CHEAP! And they are easy to replace. You can get both for less than$30.

I found both for $16 total.

Including shipping? I aimed high to account for shipping charges....

Linux? Specs are pretty low to run Windows....you could give Puppy Linux a whirl, or another lighter Linux distro like Linux Mint 17 XFCE or Lubuntu ? Any of the three would run fairly well on old hardware (Puppy Linux, especially, but it’s not as “polished” as the other two) just don’t expect to watch much online video with it!

(I doubt it would even play low-def Youtube videos that well with a 800MHZ CPU...would probably be all stuttery - I’ve found in my tinkering you need at least a 1.5GHZ or faster proc with at least 1.5GB of RAM to play Youtube videos on 360p or 480p without a lot of stuttering.)

That being said, it would be fairly usable otherwise! :) Good luck! :D

If this is your first time trying Linux, have fun with it, it’s always fun to tinker! Big fan of it here as I run Linux Mint 17 MATE on my netbook and my spare older desktop, my “daily driver” computer is running Windows 7 though!

What shape is the charger plug? I have some old ones in my drawer at work, might be Lenovo though. Are they different? Will update when I get to work.

I would love a ThinkPad 860.

These are for the IBM branded ones

Lenovo ones have a larger barrel and look like the bottom picture. Thanks

I’ve had ThinkPad T42s with 1.7GHz and 2GHz both with 2GB RAM... and they struggled with YouTube at times.

It shall be a retro PC, with Windows 95 :D

Sure looks the same, besides the name change. I’m trying to find them, I’ve got a couple in a drawer. You can have one if I can find it. I’m pretty sure the “old” thinkpads had a flat connector. They switched to round shortly before Lenovo, but I think they are the same. Yellow insides even! (we are a Dell shop, so I have no use for them!)
