Any Oppos have experience with Python? I’m learning it right now in my spare time to better prepare myself for a career in quantitative consulting/data science. It’s the first programming experience I’ve had, and I’m finding it quite fun so far. Just going through basic syntax, strings, and functions right now, but I’m hoping to begin importing some stats packages and doing some pretty basic regressions soon. Let me know if you’ve got tips, tricks, shortcuts, longcuts, etc. Have a pair of cars that are not Pythons for your time. (Picture not mine, wheels on the old Viper are kinda gross.)

Python is fun, and a good language to learn with. Good luck!

I learned it a few months back (more like a dozen or so) and have forgotten nearly all of it. Had a lot of fun though, might relearn it soon

Hello! I come from Backtalk (to see what you all think about the latest Gawker drama) - I know nothing about cars but I do know some Python! If you are looking for a job in data science, someone in that field also told me to learn SQL. How are you learning Python, book or online or class? I found codecademy and actually needing to use Python for something were the strongest motivators for me.

In my day job I use python. I’m no expert, but if you do have any questions, feel free to ask.

Totally unrelated, but I added you as an author here, just in case you ever feel like posting. The best of the reactions I’ve seen have come from PatBateman (who left, but may be returning) and For Sweden (who, like me, travels far and wide in the kinjaverse). Though others have commented as well.

Thank you! I don't even know how to drive so I doubt I'll be much use. I'll miss PatBateman but I understand the reaction.

Yeah, using codecademy and hoping to apply some of this in my consulting student group when I’m back at school. A lot of people who just graduated and started jobs in data science told me they wish they’d learned Python earlier, so I’m starting with that. Once I get comfortable, I’ll take a look at SQL and maybe R too.

I highly recommend not trying to learn all of them at once I made the mistake of learning Python and relearning R at the same time, even after knowing Matlab, and mixed up all my syntax for months.
