It’s somewhat alarming to go to a vintage day and find cars that you remember being in daily use.
Meet a Mk3 Escort. It’s the L model so it has posh things like a rear wiper. It doesn’t say 1.3 L so it’s the 1.1. It had nothing by our standards - four speed box, manual everything including I think the choke and so on. Like all versions of the Mk3 sold in Europe power steering was never offered. No, of course there wasn’t AC either. That was unheard of at the time and for many years after.

Our family cars were such cheap junk that even though I’m only 21 I see our cars at classic car shows already. My uncle had a 1985 Fiesta until I was 11 because he couldn’t replace it for example.

I had a Mk3 Escort once and never had any electrical troubles, there not being many electrical things on the car. It was the mechanical bits that were troublesome.

Nothing wrong with that! Too bad the US Escort was lame though.

Some sweet memories of trying to turn on a Escort with the ethanol powered CHT 1.6l engine and letting it warm up while forming a huge cloud of half burnt alcohol in the winter. You could get drunk just by sniffing this vapor
