Been 10 minutes now and they still haven’t left. Does this car need to warm up before every journey. Going by the last 15 years, the answer is very much YES.
Also that black smudge on my window sums up London’s air quality.

...but they aren't even that loud at all. The turbos muffle the exhaust so much.

I’m from the North and everytime I go to London I feel like I can’t breathe. It’s more diesel fumes than air.

This one is. It does quiet down when it finally moves but when it sits there idling, it’s like a Jet engine.

Yup. I’ve commuted by foot for the past 10 years and I do wonder what affect that has had on my health.

Probably not a great one... I have to wonder if it’d be much better if the cabs were petrol and not diesel.

They don’t even run on diesel they all run on chip shop oil. Which you would think would be great if you like chips but really no. Smells like a BBQ with rotten potatoes.

If so, they should of got their money. Sounds like an angry diesel at idle and then goes virtually silent on the move.

There are certainly worse things to listen to... like an idling Harley Davidson with “loud pipes” or a high schooler with a stock Honda Civic and little to no exhaust bits left.
I could listen to a 996 Turbo all day long.

Damn. If they can sort the logistics I’d love to see more electric taxis (they have a few Leafs in Newcastle). Less noise and pollution from those things would be nice.

I shouldn’t say this, since Boris might throw me out of London but these bloody things are the problem. Old weasy diesels dumping carbon everywhere.

Yeah they definitely need to be brought up to date.

I remember the timy throttle blip that I used the traverse a speed bump in my apartment parking lot at one mph early in the morning. THAT car was loud. As evidenced by the starting and aforementioned throttle blip setting off a half dozen car alarms every freaking morning.
Also, listen to a group b rally car sitting on the start line ... lol

Haha, I would not mind this outside my window. Past 4 years in the winter I would have to listen to 200k+ mile VAG diesels warming up early in the morning, that was hell.

Get some modern Isuzu diesel swaps and keep the old cars. I hate the new ones, we have a few in San Francisco. I want an old one like Stephen Fry has. I have a 300D turbo, as close as I get.

Even the modern engines arent fantastic for air quality. The cabs look cool, but Londoners lungs probably dont. I hope they build a classic looking hybrid or electric cab. Maybe even hydrogen if the tech gets there. I dont want them to be replaced with a dull Prius or something, but the drivetrains arent good pollution wise.
