Pardon me, do you have any Grey Poupon? ..... Legend tells the tale of how a Russian investor named Yuri Milner saved Facebook. Back in the day, when FB was still raising money, things weren’t looking so great for the mighty Zuck in 2008 - Yuri came from the cold, and gave Zuckerberg money at 3x the valuation as everyone else at the time. Ballsiest bet that paid off handsomely. I’d imagine if I was Yuri, I would have this cool Rolls Royce Phantom as my main form of transport in Silicon Valley and show all the peasants that I’m definitely way up in the 1%.

Now, however, don’t expect to get Grey Poupon from the driver of this one, instead this one rolls on modern 24” wheels to set itself apart. No shyness (or taste?) on this one. I dont particularly like these wheels, but I guess it sets them apart from any other billionaires in their Phantoms.

No Fuzz - Just rolling on my Rolls - at 11 MPG - This is only one of the few sedans I can look down on MPG... coz my own V8 car gives me a measly 16 MPG in the city. The 6.8 engine V12 puts a fair 453HP (no Turbos to worry about) and comes with all the accoutrements you want.

I guess on this model, the Spirit of Ecstasy emblem in the hood doesn’t go down. I think this is the last car that has a 3 dimensional badge left, am I right?

Oh, yes, hi, just me and my Ferrari, don’t mind me. Sorry I got in the way. kthanxbai.

“... show all the pheasants ...”

I don’t think the birds will be particularly impressed with the car.

LOL - Fixed - and if Birds do crap out in the Rolls, you can have your driver shoot the bird, I’m sure.

Those wheels wouldn’t be the worst if they were white to match the car. There isn’t a single red thing on there to match.

Do you actually work in Silicon Valley? Might be a dumb question but I’d like to see if I can get a few myths dispelled.

I do - The Myths are all true though :-)

The myths tell me I can walk in and talk about a distributed computing webapp, give it a clever misspelled adverb for a name and have a dorky video and have people throw money at my feet.

Instead I’m stuck in Chicago where I actually have to pitch a good idea to get into programs and get funding.

Got any advice for meeting people 2000 miles away?

Unfoturnatley, no. Half the Phantoms I’ve seen have stupid wheels. For example, the one I saw last week...

Hmmm.. Boston and NYC are always much better markets for VC - Other shortcuts if your app really kicks ass is to get it featured at Product Hunt site, so go for that.

The time when an Idea only gets you money are long gone (unless you already made something that did work and sold for tons of $$$) so stop pitching, start building. There used to be a time, but now is so cheap to launch, you gotta build before asking for $. (Funny Video will be required for sure though)

Make sure you mention in the video that you app will ‘make the world a better place’ otherwise, getthefuckouttahere

After our initial seed investment, we’ve spoken to a few VC firms out in NY but progress is slow. We’re past the prototype stage and just getting a GUI/User experience mettled down until it impresses someone enough to push us on to security testing.

Strange thing is, here in Chicago they don’t even care if you have a website as much as they do that you’ve got a clear financial outlook and have already done all your market research beforehand. It’s a very different mindset, but thankfully the finance and market research stuff comes easy to me. It’s the networking and user experience design that seems to be the hangup.

Hmmm, excessive interest in your startup ‘financial outlook’ just means rookie, no-gut VCs and investors. Stop wasting time in slides, excel, etc.... When I did my pitches, the ones who asked for ridiculous 3 yr plans never worked or invested. Too many finance peeps in Chicago. You really need to pitch/show to NY/Boston/SV people. Or keep building. Get your stuff in Product Hunt high enough - people will call

Solid advice, while there is a solid push for trying to develop a unique “VC environment” in chicago, it’s still in its infancy. Thanks for the perspective.
